Christians believe that they are saved because Jesus paid the penalty for the sins of the world. Jesus was betrayed, put on trial, mocked, tortured, and executed within a day's time. Then he rose to life three days later and soon after ascended to Heaven. However, the penalty for sin is eternity in Hell. Simple logic suggests that this means that either Jesus did not pay the penalty for anyone's sin, or that the only fair penalty for sin is a similar death followed by resurrection and eternal life in Heaven and not the fire and brimstone God threatens us with.

To The Rev,
I assure you that when I was a Christian I spent many, many hours studying that book. I'm pretty confident that the redemption you speak of is redemption from sin. Also, Hebrews 9:28 explicitly states that Jesus was sacrificed to take away sin.
To Billy,
Check out Revelation 21:8. It gives a list of sins worthy of damnation that is not limited to unbelief and it also equates Hell with the second death.
Please, everyone, don't assume that I am not thoroughly acquainted with the Bible.

Ok, there are a few things wrong with what you just stated.
1, we will be saved IF we continue to endure till the end.
Mark 13:12 Furthermore, brother will deliver brother over to death, and a father a child, and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death; 13 and YOU will be objects of hatred by all people on account of my name. But he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved.
Revelation 2:10 Do not be afraid of the things you are about to suffer. Look! The Devil will keep on throwing some of YOU into prison that YOU may be fully put to the test, and that YOU may have tribulation ten days. Prove yourself faithful even to death, and I will give you the crown of life.
James 1:12 Happy is the man that keeps on enduring trial, because on becoming approved he will receive the crown of life, which Jehovah promised to those who continue loving him.
2, The penalty for sin is death!
Romans 6:23 For the wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord.
3, The hell that the churches teach is not a bible teaching!!! when we die the bible says that we are asleep!
Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten.
Matthew 11:11 He said these things, and after this he said to them: “Laz′a·rus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.” 12 Therefore the disciples said to him: “Lord, if he has gone to rest, he will get well.” 13 Jesus had spoken, however, about his death. But they imagined he was speaking about taking rest in sleep. 14 At that time, therefore, Jesus said to them outspokenly: “Laz′a·rus has died."
And the bible says that we will live on earth not in heaven. Altho some will live in heaven, most will live here on earth!
Psalms 37:9 For evildoers themselves will be cut off,
But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth.
10 And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more;
And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be.
11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth,
And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.
22 For those being blessed by him will themselves possess the earth,
But those upon whom evil is called by him will be cut off.
29 The righteous themselves will possess the earth,And they will reside forever upon it.
Matthew 5:5 “Happy are the mild-tempered ones, since they will inherit the earth.

The penalty for sin is just death, not eternity in hell. Go read your Scriptures again. And the only people who are in hell are the ones who choose to be there because they hate God, and would rather suffer torment than change their minds. That isn't something God does to them- it's just what being apart from God is like. The distinction is important.

The price has been paid for your sins and for mine. But, the Word says that if my Spirit does not abide in you you're not mine. And if your not a child of God your a child of satan and you will go to hell. The Word also says that you must be born again. That is with the Spirit of God known also as the Holy Spirit living and dwelling inside of you. This can be found in 1John 5:12 NIV and King James Version 1John 5:12search the scriptures and become enlightened to the truth .

Jesus did died for our sins. If someone goes to hell it's not because they sin but because they didn't confused Jesus as they're Lord and Savior. And yes the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is Eternal life.

When Jesus cried out from the cross;
"Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" (Mark 15:34)
He experienced something that cannot be experienced unless you die in your sins - utter and complete separation from God. At that moment, Jesus laid down His divine nature and took upon Himself the penalty for all of the sins of mankind. In that moment of time, Jesus was not only here physically on earth, but He was also spiritually in eternity in separation from God. People mistake the things which are seen for the things which are not seen. The beating He took accomplished two things: 1) it established an undeniable source of identification as Messiah to the elect (Israel) when their eyes are opened in the end times, and (2) It fulfilled all of the ancient Biblical prophesies of the severity of His death.

Christians also believe that Jesus was God Himself. He did descend into Hell by taking all of our sins (or at least the ones we willingly give up to Him by putting our trust and belief in Him) upon himself. He also overcame death, and returned from there having defeated it. Why not? He is God, after all, according to the doctrine. With God, anything is possible. We are merely human. If you refuse to offer your sins up to Him to be repaid by His death, then they are not redeemed. While I personally don't completely subscribe to this belief, there is some sense behind it.

David,
I think that there is a little logic to your argument, but honestly very little. Based on your question, I assume that you know better, but feel free to try that logic on God when you see Him. I honestly believe that God will not be happy to send you to hell, but, at this point, you leave Him no choice, do you?
I do hope you quit playing games with words and with your eternal soul, but the choice is yours. You can keep asking silly questions or you can ask questions that really show that you are concerned with knowing the truth about God and eternity.
God bless.

Read the bible some time. Jesus didn't die for our sins. He died so that by the gift of accepting Him as our lord and savior God gives us redemption and eternal life.
Read the book!!!!!

Jesus entered into the Jewish Holy of Holies & poured His blood onto the mercy seat; thus entreating His Father to accept His offering.
We know that the Father did accept the Son's offering because tradition teaches that the veil in the Tabernacle was ripped apart; making G-d accessable to the common man.
His sacrifice was accepted.

This is the whole idea of the resurrection. Jesus died bearing the weight of the world's sins and He defeated death through the resurrection. this is why death has no sting if you are a saved believer.
