When the right wing complains about immigrants flooding into the U.S., they mean Mexican immigrants. But Mexicans aren’t the main immigrants to the U.S.
In 2000, about 50 percent of legal immigrants emigrated from the “Americas” (North, Central and South America and the Caribbean), according the Population Resource Center. Just half of these migrated from Mexico, less than from Asia (about 26 percent). Fifteen percent came from Europe.
Despite the right’s rhetoric, immigrants play a critical, irreplaceable role in the U.S. economy. “If we didn’t have those elements [immigrant workers], we would be moving into a situation like Japan and Europe...where the populations are graying in a way that is very alarming and endangering their productivity and endangering even their social security systems,” Lewis Goodman, an American University expert on U.S.-Latin American relations, pointed out to the Associated Press last year.

Are they? You hear of immigrants commiting some crime and makes you think all of them are doing it. But look and New Orleans and there was a troop of immigrants fixing it. I used to work in the fields and I never saw a white/black/asian guy picking fruits. Go stay in a hotel, and chances are good you'll see some immigrant WORKING in it. If you don't want illegal people in this country then stop depending on them. Damn, I would really like to see all the illegal people out of this country so I can go to a field and see white people working on it, now That would be a good sight to see.

Immigrants are important. However, all of the important elements of immigration can be factored into a country's immigration quotas. Those who come above that for subsidized services like education are definitely drawing the life blood of the country, in my opinion.

I see people protesting (no way to tell their legal status) and a sign in english that says "smash racism". How are they leeches? And I think the sign says it all, that is the message that I support!

I love all the complaining about illegal immigration from a bunch of people who immigrated here and flat out stole everything from the only people who ever "owned" it.

i pay my taxes, speak english, and help out some leeching americans along the way.
