I agree! i work in a area that I'll say is 95 percent Spanish, i work as a window clerk in the Post office, they come to my window and have the nerve to ask me to get them a Spanish speaking person. Learn the dog on language!!!! i can't go to France or China and walk around not being able to speak one bit of their languages, it irks me so much, i love all people, i just can't stand when i have to go out of my way to accommodate foreigner who either don't want to, or are too lazy to learn the language, stay in your country if you don't want to learn /speak English!!!!

The last time I checked, English was SUPPOSED to be the primary language here in the U.S. What I hate is the recording that tells you to press 1 for English and then when you do, you get to hear the same message all over again, in Spanish! What's up with that?

There are many communities in America where Spanish is the primary language spoken. I agree that the telephone menu should be English, or press 2 for Spanish - you should not have to press 1 for English.

Because there are so many people in this counrty (mostly Mexicans) that speak Spanish as their first language, so it is easier for them, but I see what you are saying. English is the "official" language of the U.S, so why bother having any other options. This country has the most immigrants in it, so it would only be a little fair to put that option. Sometimes I choose both, just because I like the cultural insight on Spanish, but that's just me.
Puedo hablar ingles cuando quiero, entonces puedo halbar espanol cuando quiero.

Yeah, why should WE have to push a button a button for English! This is English speaking country, and how the (BLEEP!) is it that way here, but we can't get accommodations in foreign countries? I agree with the other poster on this!
Shoot, the only people who should complain about language accommodation is the Native Americans, because this IS their land, but I know they know English.

I am sorry you have to press 1 for English. It's really not your fault if you live in a country that holds education in such low esteem. Imagine a nation where people think it's a virtue to be limited to one language - when it's actually an intellectual deficit.

I asked a question like this a couple of weeks ago. I believe it's an accomodation to illegals. To gain american citizenship, you must know english to past the required tests. To past the test, you have to study the books that are written in english. If they know all the required to past those test, they really wouldn't need to "marque el dos para espanol. They are accomodating to the illegals in return for cheap labor. That's how the cookie crumbles in america

Actually, America is a multi-cultural country. If company want to make more money, they need to make their customer feel good. As a result, even though English is the main language, if you can speak more than one language, you are easlier to be hired. Just realistic.
