The signs/symptoms are that you aren't urinating as much as you are drinking. Your abdomen may be slightly distended above the hair line and there may be some discomfort there when palpated. A doctor might order a residual urine check...that is you measure the amount of urine that you urinate and then do a catheterization to see how much urine remains in the bladder. You might try sitting on the toilet for a little while longer to see if you can completely empty your bladder on your own. It would have been helpful to know what kind of surgery you had.

Lower abdominal distention, and an inability to urinate. A catheterizing is necessary to relieve the bladder, and close patient monitoring after cath removal for follow-up.
