So many people interpret the bible in so many different ways and say that this passage is this and this is only a parable, this should be taken literally, so why do you believe that person is telling you the truth, since you don't even know these people

I can always spot a true blue Christian, like you to prove that they are very closed minded, even the thought of the question, makes you feel like an idiot

Bible is not the tool to find truth. It assumes a God and records God's words as given by the prophets.

Having said that, the bible interprets itself. There are plenty of resources to pin down the meaning.

Is Bible meaning truth? What do you believe?

I agree that sometimes people misquote from the Bible, or take a phrase out of context. Especially those stories told by Jesus, as He did tend to use parables to drive a point home. Those seem to be obvious parables, they begin with "There was once a man..." or something similar. Those are definately parables, it's pretty much the ancient way of saying "once upon a time" lol.

And yes, you should question the author of any interpretation. Just because it's on TBN doesn't mean it's true! There are some preachers out there who lead the flock astray with their vague notions.

But trust a man who quotes an entire scripture, not just a single verse here and there. A really good preacher will take a paragraph or an entire chapter or whatever and expound upon it, telling you the historical and spiritual aspect of that particular part of the Bible so you walk away with a greater understanding. A bad preacher will quote 16 different verses from 16 different books of the Bible. A man like that makes it too easy to take the Word out of context.

I read the bible ever day. Many passages I have read over and over at different times, and am always surprised to get out of the reading new understandings I never got the first time. or second. etc. I think the more we read it the more we're enlightened with the understanding of His word. The Living God means now. For us.
The Vatican has spent several centuries using people who have studied these books their whole lives, and the concensus understanding continues to evolve. When you receive the Holy Spirit into your life, you recognize truth by the results it produces.
There is nothing that recognizes Jesus Christ and the Spirit that is unholy.
Listen to Joel Olsteen of Lakewood ministries. Or Charles Stanley. There are some deceivers out there, but you will see truth sometimes in even what they may share. Discernment is an acquired trait gained from studying, learning.

I don't. That's why I've downloaded the e-Sword software from the Free Stuff page @ http://web.express56.com/~bromar/

It has the KJV with Strong's numbers so I can see what the original words in the Scripture were and what they mean. I've downloaded the KJ Concordance so I can see how the same word was used in different passages along with many commentaries so I can compare what various scholars have had to say about how a passage should be interpreted. It also has the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia and a whole lot more and it's all FREE!

You have to believe someone, how do yo know if the lawyer interprets the law correctly, how do you know if any thing you read was interpreted correctly. You give trust to you teachers and people who study the things. The thing that makes me wander is why is there a different standard given to the bible but not to the ancient other texts.
Buddism first biography of budda was written 600 years after his death
Islam first quoran was written 150 years after mohammeds death, the earlier work was destroyed by muslims.
Hinduism thousands of years after the religion was started
New testament first letters of Peter were written within the second year after Jesuses death.

I do not believe just any man who interprets the bible. why?
2nd Peter 1:19,20
19) We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20) Knowing this first, that no prohecy of the scriptures is of any private interpretation.
they who have a more sure word of prophecy is the prophets and apostles written in the bible. You must read your bible and pray for wisdom and understanding from God and he shall surely give you the answers you are looking for
1 John 4:1
1) Beloved, Believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
So these words are not of me brother marland, but of God written in scripture.

When their answers are supported by the bible (that is a must), there are many disagreements about a lot of the bible as far as meaning goes (and both sides have good arguments), but most of that is the details. I personally will listen to all sides of the argument and as long as someone isn't questioning my salvation I'll just be prepared for both arguments to be true. Some are obviously false though...

The original Greek and Hebrew is the way to go! ASBN translation is the most recent that I know of that came directly from Greek and Hebrew.

You have to be in the "Spirit" of God. To know if what you are hearing is the truth, ask God himself. God does not lie!!. Ask God if the person or persons telling you their interpretations is true or not. If you receive a warm feeling in your heart, then it is true. If not, you will receive a stupor of though. In other words, you will not feel right and remember it no more. Remember this.
When Jesus left this earth, he left the Devine Comforter the "Holy Spirit" so that the Deciples would know right and wrong. Listen to that small still voice "The Spirit" and you will know the truth.

The people who you should listen to are the people who actually have proof of what they're talking about. If they can answer your questions about the bible than you know that they know what they are talking about. Some religions just send people out to preach and they don't know what they're telling you. My religion has been able to answer a lot of my questions such as: why does god permit suffering?, How can this world become a paradise? and so on. I have been able to live a good life because of my religion and I suffer no problems in life. All of my questions are answered and I have proof that they're real. Find someone who shares not only knowledge of the bible, but who lives it.

The bible is a conglomeration of ancient stories and events that were passed down and rewritten to suit the powers of the day to gain control over the masses. Same rings true today. That's why the military wants you to be religious.

A person well schooled and well versed in exegesis, history, and archaeology could - with a fair bit of work - probably interpret a book of the bible in a way fairly close to the written intent, if they spent a few years at it.

Fortunately, in my church, we have had a few of the greats in this field - from St. Ambrose, St. Chrysostom, and St .Augustine of the classical era, to St. Thomas Aquinas and the scholastics in the late middle ages, to St. Therese of Lisieux in the romantic era... right up to our current pope, who was an expert theologian before coming pope (which shows in his heartfelt encyclical 'Deus Caritas Est.')

From the Dogmatic Constitution on Sacred Scripture, Vatican II, 1962:

"But the task of authentically interpreting the word of God, whether written or handed on, (8) has been entrusted exclusively to the living teaching office of the Church, (9) whose authority is exercised in the name of Jesus Christ. This teaching office is not above the word of God, but serves it, teaching only what has been handed on, listening to it devoutly, guarding it scrupulously and explaining it faithfully in accord with a divine commission and with the help of the Holy Spirit, it draws from this one deposit of faith everything which it presents for belief as divinely revealed."

So as you can see, we Catholics only interpret the bible one way, by having experts invested in the teaching office study it carefully, and then share what they learn.
