A necropsy was done and there was no reason for his death found. His brain was the only organ not autopsied. Could he have died of a massive cerebral stroke?

If you know who you got him from and know who his parents are which I'm guessing you might not since he's a mix, you could find out how they died. I'm really sorry for your loss, I had a 13 year old rottweiler die on me but we knew the cause and it wasn't sudden. He could've had something wrong in his brain you didn't know about, and it could've been genetic. Maybe you could find out how his parents died if there's any way you can.

and chocolate will kill any dog if you give them too much, it's poison to them but you said you had an autopsy, that's something they'd notice... and it wouldn't be sudden.

Well, he had some kind of medical condition!! They can have heart problems that you would not notice on a regular necropsy. Tissue samples would have to be sent out to know if there was a sudden arrhythmia.
Brain is another possible area to suspect.
You may never know. We did all of those things and they still did not know for sure what caused our dog to die suddenly. But at 10, there could have been a few things at work.

My dog died suddenly also. Got up in the morning she was fine. Came home in the afternoon she was sick. Took her to the vet. The vet said her liver enzymes were high and that she had an infection take her home and it will take a while for her to get better. The next day when we got home from work we found her deceased. She was 9 almost 10. We never really found out why she died. Sorry about your dog.

my friend's 11 year old husky died suddenly recently after a seizure. Yours could have had the same thing - it was a stroke.

Yes or a seizure. Our husky died at 11..but because of her large size mixed with a malmute... we were lucky to have her for that long.

well, some dogs could just give up there life at any age like if my dogs were all 20 they would be dead by now it's probably cause your dog wasn't really healthy or there was something wrong with your dog that you nor your vet could find out.
