Yes you can... but I don't recommend it. Instead be creative for a base. A pretty plate, A cup if it's not too large. I have one candle set on a lamp base and another on the top. The lamp had metal top and bottom with a glass center. It got broken so I took it apart. The base was the perfect size for a 2 wick candle, and I used a drill bit specially made for metal to enlarge the hole on the top part of the lamp so a taper would fit. They both work great!

You should always use a holder with candles. Some tend to drip a lot which can damage whatever surface you put it on. I still use holders for pillars and those huge mega 3-wick candles because I don't want the bottom of the candle to leave waxy residue on my tables.

It's not a good idea, you can start a fire that way. If you really don't have a holder, a dinner plate will do.

yes you can just make sure the wax dont drip on anything and burn a hole threw it
