I don't believe in the bible or other religions. They're views and ethics are good, but I don't believe in the 'facts' they suggest. I can't have that much blind faith in a book (bible) that has been written by a person, and re-written 1000's of times over 1000's of years by 1000's of people.

For one thing, Adam and Eve: Think about this. One man and one women populating the earth..? No. It's impossible, but how else is someone from the that time frame suppossed to think mankind started. Evolution would be beyond their thinking and likely an instult. I know....it's not impossible because of god. It makes things simple like that. God is the answer to anything and everything:questions we can't answer=god, something to pray to something to blame, something to thank =god.

For the same reasons as above, I can't just not believe in god-I too need something to blame or pray to/hope for and thank. God is a crutch for man and whether he exists or not, we can't live without him.

to lois_the_apostate's: First of all, I don't really pray, I wish for things to happen (like everyone else) and I identify that as along the same lines a praying. Secondly, I see you ask and answer quite a few religous questions yourself, are you on the fence?

The technical term crutch, ok, is temporary but look at what I'm saying. This stuff is what everyone does (whether you want to admit or not).

Just finished reading your long answer. Thank you for your comments (along with everyone elses). I don't know how matter and all that is just created.....no one does. Science can't prove a thing but neither can religion (not missing the point don't worry). One thing though....there are part man part ape skeletons...austriopithacus afirensus (nowhere near the proper spelling) and others. Ever hear of Suzy? I think that's the name. She was a missing link in the evolutionary....uh....thingy....but she and others are "definatly" pre-historic homosapiens. The " " is because nothing PREHISTORIC is fact. hence the word.

The fact that you are asking the question about existance is my point....god is the answer. Only a god can make something from nothing. A question we cannot anwer using science is automatically god, because that's all our brains can fathome. Yes? maybe not. I'll never know unless I go one way or another. the two extremes.

TO: Smiling 4 ever:

That was a load of crap. All this, lets assume and garbage. You (or whoever wrote that crap) include way too much 'heresay' and opions and use the exact same reasoning as anyone else....because god.....because of this, then obviously this, because of god. Bull.
Whoever wrote this crap cannot honestly believe it (or he believes it because he was raised to believe it) or is a phsyco.

I think you've correctly identified the fact that religious belief is not based on reason (since there has never been any valid argument or evidence for the existence of gods), but rather it is based largely on emotional needs, i.e. it's wishful thinking.

Hi. I too do not believe in the Bible or other religions.
Yeah the Adam and Eve thing. People don't really know this.
The story got a little mixed up over 2000 years
But Adam and Eve are more of a symbol of the first man and woman. They are an example of an idea of people beginning to question their existence and place in the world. Being cast-out of the garden of Eden, means loss of innocence.
To give you an example of this go here and tell me what you see.

Research has shown that young children cannot identify the intimate couple because they do not have prior memory associated with such scenario. What they will see are the nine dolphins.
When were you cast-out of the garden of Eden?

Why do you NEED to believe in God? You admit that such a belief is a crutch. Well, crutches are for the people who can't stand up on their own; eventually, the crutches have to be thrown away and the person must use his legs again. Crutches are temporary, not permanent--unless, of course, you have a permanent defect. Are you suggesting that you have a permanent mental defect that requires a permanent crutch? I hope not!

I don't understand your statement, "whether he exists or not, we can't live without him." He DOESN'T exist, and you DO live without him! Your belief is based on what you wish could be real--you want some "higher power" to exist so that you can blame it for bad things and ask it for favors. Well, I have news for you--humans are to blame for the bad things they do. Why do you need a god to hold responsible for what others do wrong? Can't you just hold them responsible? If not, why not?

If something good happens in your life, why do you need a higher power to thank? Can't you just be happy for it and leave it at that? It's not that hard, I do it all the time.

Why do feel the need to pray to what doesn't exist? Does prayer do anyone any good? Go into a cemetary and look at all the grave sites of children who died of disease or injury. Their parents prayed fervently with hope and faith and tears, yet their children lie dead in the ground. Go into a hospital ER and pray for someone to be healed--it won't happen. People of all religions offer up a million prayers a day, and none of them are answered because there is nobody to hear them.

Prayer does no good for anybody, but action will get you far. If you want something, you have to work for it. If you want to get well, you must go to a doctor. If you want people to be helped, then you must help them. No invisible deity is going to reach down and do a damn thing for anyone--it's all up to us. We're here on this world together, just us humans, and if we want the world to change, we have to do it ourselves.

I agree with you. There are so many translations and versions of the bible around. Some are literal translations, others are interpetations. it's hard to see the "facts' through it all. Religions also come in various perspectives of the "truths", even within their own divisions and classifications. What is one to believe? Should one even believe? Is it all just a crutch, just a way to explain the unexplainable? Even science can be looked upon as a religion, trying to explain and find reason for everything. Still it just one persons opinion. Science once thought the world was flat and the sun revolved around the earth. May as well include the theory of evolution in that list.

Faith is simply belief. A trust that something is true and factual. Some put their faith in religion, others science, etc. Some believe there is a god, others do not. Looking at the universe, our world, etc., I choose to believe that there is an entity, a intelligent being, a creator of everything.

Can we find this God, outside all the various interpetations and reasonings presented to us? Personally, I have gone down many different paths for an answer. Most are ways of reaching and defining who and what is god. The result of all my searching has lead me to a fact and truth that God is indeed a living being who is reaching out to us. Of all the paths, I found this only in Christianity.

If we go beyond the religious dogma and doctrines, the core truth is the exclusive claim of Christ that no one can come to God except through believeing in who Jesus was and what He did for us. It takes a simple leap of faith to go beyond the doubt and perhaps accept the possibilty that this was true. I figured that if this was not true, I at least proved to myself that Christianity was nothing more than many of the religions out there.

That was many years ago. God revealed Himself to be alive and a loving being, who wants to interact with us, to be a real and dynamic within our lives. Millions of people, over thousand of years, have found this to be true. I hope that your path will lead you to this precious truth as well.

Not believing in God is your choice. It doesn't change the fact that He is the creator of all things. Man did start with Adam and Eve and they not only have the two sons, but also had many children which included girls too. Since women are second in nature and are man's hellpmates, they are not mentions much in the bible, but many of them play very important rolls in life. Just like Mary who gave birth to Jesus.

Back then it was ok for the brothers to marry their sisters in order to populate the earth. Over centuries since the world;s populaton increased, it was no longer acceptable to marry your sibling. After the flood, it was Noah's family that popluated the earth. You can believe it or not, that i's your choice. But in the end this is what God says, and yes this comes from a book that was written by scholars inspired by God. ...

Romans 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

And this means you too!

Faith and Reason are two opposite places to be at and neither of them give concrete answers. Faith is crippled by lack of reason. While at the same time Reason's best answers usually end up need a big helping of faith/speculation.

You can pick which ever one suits your fancy but you should know neither one is going to be particularly fulfilling. Religion basic premise is faith. It's annoying but you can't get around it. Yet it's important that you pick something, faith or reason, so you can move on. To be in the middle of faith and reason shows the cowardice of indecision. Life's to short to ride the fence!

And to the disillusioned 14 years old, relax for a second. Theres no need to throw away everything you believe in. People would die and/or suffer regardless of God was in control or not.

I agree.
"The Way Is Forever, but the Realizaion Is Absolute

The Way is Sacrifice of self.

The Realization is that no objects exits.

The Way is self-transcending Love-Communion with the Living and Divine Reality.

The Realization is the Radiant Transcendental Consciousness, in which there are not objects, no differentiated conditions.

As long as the conventions of experience persist, there must be the Way and the Realization, both.

Those who seem to practice the Way, full of self-denial, meditation, and good acts, but who do not Realize the Radiant Transcendental Consciousness in every moment, have only emptied themselves.

Those who constantly speak of the Radiant Transcendental Consciousness, indulging their minds in concepts of emptiness, transparency, and pure space, but who do not practice the Way of self-transcending Love-Communion in every moment, are only full of themselves.

In every moment, there must be the Way and the Realization, simultaneous, actual, and true, as long as the conventions of experience persist.

Then there is only Radiant Fullness, or Love, without dilemma, without self, and without inherent circumstance, even in every moment of the Mystery of all relations.

I am the Consciousness behind attention, the Self from which mind arises.

I am the Radiant Life that pervades the world, the energy of which every object is the modification.

Love Me with open eyes. Turn to Me beyond all experience and every thought. Let Me live you. Dissolve in My Current of Bliss."

i agree: the holy books are just based on stories by un-scientific people to explain how the world works to un-scientific people. now that we have science and an explanation people might open there eyes to what is really going on.
