I'm willing to spend around $1000, so something in that general price range. It has to be digital. I don't really know what is a good deal, what brand and everything that I should go with, or if I should buy it online or in a store? All advice and suggestions are welcome :)

The Nikon D range have some pretty good cameras I think you'll be happy with. The main thing though is check out what lens a camera has, rather than anything else. It's the lens that gives you the clarity and quality of an image rather than the camera itself.
Have a look at the Nikon D70 or the D50.

Good luck!

The Nikon D50 is an awesome camera- for the price and all that it can do. It takes Nikon and Sigma lenses, and possibly another kind. But don't get the sigma lenses they are awful and difficult to focus. Don't be fooled by the Nikon D100 it's not better.
The best time to buy a Nikon is around x-mas when they are having rebates on there products.

if you want to spend $1000, consider seriously for a D-SLR. Nikon D50 or Canon Rebel D XT are good options. A kit could be for less than 1000 (camera body, standard zoom lens, 1 giga memory card)

The canon camera has a bigger ISO range (100-3200) than the nikon one (200-1600) and has a bigger image, 8mp than the 6mp image of the nikon.

There is the Pentax option, too. A pretty one is the Pentax *ist DL (actually, the cheapest D-SLR body, under 500) and there are 2 new models:

You will still have some extra 200 to buy another lens, or a flash unit.

B&H (www.bhphotovideo.com) is a trustfull store, and has good prices, too. You can buy online or in the store (in NYC).

check out the Nikon d50 digital SLR or the comparable canon by buying a digital SLR it will allow you to change lenses at 6megapixels you will be able to enlarge up to 20X30 or bigger if you like the kit comes with one lens and should retail for about $600 you can operate it as a point and shoot if you choose or as your ability grows start playing with the creative possibilities add a 2mg card and you can shoot about 570 high quality pics the epson picture mate 4x6 printer is also a great addition for about $150 if you prefer to stay with small point and shoot anything over 5 or 6 meg should be fine

I love my Canon S2 IS. Price range for the basic camera is 265 to 399. I got mine for 265 online, but by the time I got some of the extras, that you really do need, I spent 600. It is the camera I had been dreaming of.

The good: Attractive, functional design; optical image stabilization; solid image quality; 58MB of internal memory.

The bad: Slow f/3.5 maximum aperture; spotty red-eye reduction.

The bottom line: Pocket-friendly and stylish, the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-T30 continues the T-series tradition of ease of use and image quality.
