What is the proper way of eating taco?

Question

Tacos have very brittle shells. Once I bite it, the shell cracks also on other places and splatters its contents all over. It gets really messy. How should I eat it to avoid the mess? Should I hold it together with a table napkin? Should I just leave it on the plate instead and use a fork to eat it with?

Crunch it up and eat like a taco salad...or eat sideways, wrapped in a paper napkin.

Actually those kinds of tacos are an American invention, the way that you make tacos in Mexico is by using a little oil in a pan and frying the tortillas, turn them only once, put the beef(we don't use ground beef, only steak or other types of meat) and you place the meat inside the tortilla right in the pan. You can add whatever you like when you are finished. If you like the tacos crunchy you can fry then a little more and make sure the pan is really, really hot first. these are so much better than those fake shells.

i make tacos using corn tortillas... and fry them a little with the meat & cheese inside. then put the cold ingredients on. way easier to hold than those cheap boxed taco shells.
also... eating the taco sideways helps.

use soft shells. they don't crack. they may crumble, but not crack. anyway the proper way to eating a soft shell taco. you roll it up and just waffle it down like i do. (don't forget the mild sauce.)

i crush them all up with a fork and mix it around and eat it, or else stick to a soft shell that is easier to manage
