easy ? to be partial based on personal experience. northeast alabama/lookout mountain has some very scenic areas to enjoy the outdoors, including desoto st park. southwest and northeast ark (quachita national forest) are both quality areas to discover as well. canoeing is not good in the south currently due to persistent drought and low river levels. black creek st park in miss.(low water now = difficult paddling),where you can pitch a tent on white sandy banks after a day or so of canoeing. and to save the best for last, one can also come down to city park in nola and settle down under a majestic live oak next to relief workers, immigrants and fema trailers which i promise would be an experience you'd never forget.

In Arkansas try Greer's Ferry Lake up North. Lake Ouachita in Hot Springs. IF, you not swimming the Arkansas River can be interesting, get below the Dams and Snag some 100 pound Catfish!! Well, not 100 pounds, but, every much of 96. ;-p
Further up North of Greer's Ferry is Blanchard Springs Caverns too with some camping if I remember and Cold swimming water when it hot. Blanchard Springs Caverns is around Mountain View or may be Mountain Home, Ha!!! You will find it! Take some warmer clothes to the Cave, it around 52-54 F inside real fun when it 100 F outside.
Arkansas is called the Natural State for a reason, there a lot of Camping and Lakes and it truly a Beautiful State. But, I been all over America, it just a Beautiful Country. Deserts, Mountains, even a Bunch of Petrified Trees!

you can do a yahoo search , just type "tent camping alabama" (without the quotes) , browse the answers, and then do it again for each state you want. it works well.

ps. if you want to camp in south carolina, go to Hunting Island. there you can camp right beside the ocean! bring bug spray *L*

Look up the state parks and the KOA's online. That's your best and safest bet.
