I had tubes inserted in my ears when I was 8 years old I was one of the first I am 49 years old know. I did not feel them and it stopped the painful ear aches I have not had one since then. My son had then put in when he was 3 years old 21 years ago. He could not hear well fluid behind the ear. He did not know they were in his ears and he was able to hear almost right away. They worked wonders for this family.

My son had chronic ear infections from 2 months old to 16 months old - he was always on antibiotics. At 16 months we had the tubes put in - he never had another ear infection.
We moved to Spain and the first night of our arrival they fell out (we were thinking the flight). At any rate he was 4 years old at that time - he is 14 now and he still to this day has not had another ear infection.

Don't ask a medical assistant about this. The doctor should have explained this to you, not his assistants. Call the doctor and speak only to the doctor. If the doctor has to call you back after office hours, that's fine. Find out specifically which procedure the doctor has in mind and ask that it be explained to you. Make certain that you understand what's been said to you and that all your questions have been answered before you hang up the phone.

I had them and so did my daughter. They simply insert a very small tube through the tympanic membrane of the ear (not really behind the ear drum, but sort of through it). Don't worry.

No, but it is generally the case that what has caused the problem to get to this point is ANTIBIOTICS. Pediatricians should be hung by their toes and flogged in a public square for assualting their fragile immune systems - and the body's friendly flora - with Poisons.
The chance of having reinfections is 600% higher after receiving antibiotics for the first problem, instead of letting their immune systems become stronger and learn how to fight off the problem by itself.

My son did. He had his first ones in three years ago and had to have the left ear redone last March.
