No, we never had a legitimate reason. With all the intelligence and technology that we have, do you really think that we had no clue that Iraq did not have WMDs and has little, if anything to do with 9/11 or terrorism?

Bush's claim that we went there to free or liberate the people there is crap too. Look at how many other countries have dictators and human rights violations (e.g. China, Sudan, Liberia, etc.). However, like I said before, we dont bother those other nations because they are either too strong or at least would present a challenge if we go to war (ex. China). Or like the others mentioned, they dont have anything worth going after.

But, Iraq was perfect. For more reasons than I can state here Iraq was perfect because, first and foremost, they have some wealth, as in oil. Secondly, and perhaps just as imperative, they were virtually defenseless or couldnt challenge us as much as some other countries could.

And let's never forget, "After all, this is the guy who tried to kill my dad." Bush, 2002

yes there is, its to turn the whole thing over to the people. They have hardly no idea how to run a country they will learn fast just like the U.S. did in the beginning . If we fail its because of lack of will power on our part. Yes they have to understand we built the watering hole and put the water in, took them to it, now they must take advantage if not sorry. Its starting to look like there is light at end of the tunnel. We can't broadcast our time table they will just wait it out. Keep them guessing in the dark. I am sure there have been talks going on to the Iraq government saying DO IT. The far left are the ones who say no mission. Why? because of any cost the hate for Bush!!!

I love how the people who never went to Iraq seem to know exactly what's going on ;)

We have an extremely clear misison: SASO (Security and Stablisation Operations. We're there to train a large enough force for Iraq to be able to handle its own problems. If you hate Bush, then just admit it, but don't act like we haven't worked miracles over in that former dictatorship.

SIMPLE. It doesnt matter. To this administration it NEVER mattered. That's the joke of it. It may look TOUGH for this admin and its proxy leader, the illigit-bush, after two stolen elections, an illegal war, a propaganda news pipeline through ALL networks. Yer askin' 'bout a mission? absolutely...the infamous banner that read "mission accomplished" -- truth be known, his mission was accomplished that day when he flew onto the deck of that air craft carrier...it's just not the mission the american citizens had in mind...too late now (BOW DOWN TO THE GLOBAL MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX)

As it stands right now there is no clear mission for American troops to be in Iraq.
And Ray, My hubby was in Iraq for a year and things have changed, but why should our army be taking care of another country when our president does such a shitty job taking care of his own country? answer that one.

i think some of you may be missing the mark, and dveloping your own question out of the one asked. The current mission of American troops is simple and is in two parts:
1) To Occupy and keep peace in order for Iraqi government to build itself...this includes the training of iraqi troops for takeover once the eventual withdrawel takes place.
2) Hunt, Capture, or Kill suspected enemies and threats to American society...this includes 9/11 conspirators, etc.

A woman sent this to me as an answer to my question about www.impeachbush.com
"Bush blew through Clinton's reservoir of excess funds faster than Clinton was able to make the surplus happen.
This war should be with the people who flew into our country and caused the 9/11 tragedy.
Iraq pissed off the oil money people that are friends and cronies of George and his daddy. They used to have parties together. Now they are annoyed and using our soldiers to settle their spat. Thankfully, there is the benefit of freedom for the Iraqi people. That makes this not a mistake, this makes their presence there worth while.
I just want to understand why we are not concentrating on the terrorists that started this. I have many loved ones serving over there, including my youngest child's father. I believe in what they are doing. I thank them for their zeal. I love my country, I cannot fight for it, I thank our veterans for doing what I cannot.
I do want to impeach Bush. He is a liar. He is a thief, and he is too confused and mentally lost to run our country. He "won" both elections with controversy. Why not a re-vote instead of a re-count? If he had won clean, I would say nothing, but two elections with controversy makes me wonder about the truth of the politics in Washington.
I want Clinton back. Hillary too. I want to have a paycheck and get my overtime. I want to take better care of our people here in America before we send money to other countries. I want to have the values of the government to come back closer to the constitution that our country is based on. Please give us a hero for a president. Not a c average screw off who obviously does not understand that you have to have a BUDGET! Some one in charge who understands that America wants to eat too. I was making 24000 a year when Clinton left office, I make 8000 a year now since Bush has been in. I have lost my house, my car, and filed bankruptcy. I never left my job. The American Dream will die if Bush has control much longer. I am not alone, my co-workers are many, and we have all lost. I am in human services.
My stock account has gone from 200 when Clinton took office, 44000 when Clinton left office. My stock is now worth about 12000. I cashed out not long ago before any more disappeared, in an attempt to avoid bankruptcy. Please give me a president who understands that the poor will rise up against an unfair system when it becomes too much of a burden. I fear for our inner cities, I fear for our children who have been slashed form the programs that Bush has removed. Clinton was able to help these people, why can't Bush? Answer, he doesn't care, he is lost, he is taking bad advice..."

As I head off to Baghdad for the final weeks of my stay in Iraq, I wanted to say thanks to all of you who did not believe the media. They have done a very poor job of covering everything that has happened. I am sorry that I have not been able to visit all of you during my two week leave back home. And just so you can rest at night knowing something is happening in Iraq that is noteworthy, I thought I would pass this on to you. This is the list of things that has happened in Iraq recently: (Please share it with your friends and compare it to the version that your paper is producing)

-Over 4.5 million people have clean drinking water for the first time ever in Iraq.
-Over 400,000 kids have up to date immunizations.
-Over 1500 schools have been renovated, and ridded of the weapons that were stored there, so education can occur.
-The port of Uhm Qasar was renovated so grain can be off loaded from ships faster.
-School attendance is up 80% from levels before the war.
-The country had it's first 2 billion barrel export of oil in August.
-The country now receives 2 times the electrical power it did before the war.
-100% of the hospitals are open and fully staffed compared to 35% before the war.
-Elections are taking place in every major city and city councils are in place.
-Sewer and water lines are installed in every major city.
-Over 60,000 police are patrolling the streets.
-Over 100,000 Iraqi civil defense police are securing the country.
-Over 80,000 Iraqi soldiers are patrolling the streets side by side with US soldiers.
-Over 400,000 people have telephones for the first time ever
-Students are taught field sanitation and hand washing techniques to prevent the spread of germs.
-An interim constitution has been signed.
-Girls are allowed to attend school for the first time ever in Iraq.
-Text books that don't mention Saddam are in the schools for the first time in 30 years.

Don't believe for one second that these people do not want us there. I have met many many people from Iraq that want us there and in a bad way. They say they will never see the freedoms we talk about but they hope their children will. We are doing a good job in Iraq and I challenge anyone, anywhere to dispute me on these facts. So If you happen to run into John Kerry, be sure to give him my email address and send him to Denison, Iowa. This soldier will set him straight. If you are like me and very disgusted with how this period of rebuilding has been portrayed, email this to a friend and let them know there are good things happening.

There was for me. One guy told me his brother was killed, women would get raped on the streets and he never knew if he was going to get back home alive when he left in the morning. Personal experiences are just so much more impacting. If you understand who the terrorist are and why they are doing it (and I don't mean al-qaida) you realize, that they need stability before we leave...with that said, I think we impress on them the importance creating stability without us, soon. But we shouldn't leave before that. IMHO
