Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment, for it is an old one you have always had, right from the beginning. This commandment – to love one another – is the same message you heard before. Yet it is also new. (1 John 2:7-8 NLT)

This is just so stupid I just had to post it lol

Jude 1:17-19

But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.

It is Old because that part of the summation of the Old Testament. It is New because Christ takes the old teaching and elevates it to a higher command, to love all as the Father loves his creation. It is a harder and higher love than the love of the Old Testament for it demands perfection in love, but the Holy Spirit is sent to make this working out of perfection possible.

‘You shall not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him. ‘You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:18
This was the old command to love others as yourselves

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. John 13:34
This is the new command to love others as Christ loved us

So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? “You call me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. “For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. John 13:12-15
Jesus The Christ came as a suffering servant and He gave us the example to love others, by serving, others even if they are considered of a lesser status
That’s what that verse, 1 John 2:7-8, means and I admit there are a lot of Christian who have not only missed the mark but didn’t even hit the target on that but the beauty of being a Christian is that God loves us because of who He is not because of who we are or what we do.
p.s. your questions and comments seem like you are trying to disprove something to your self, what’s up?
