If you have a dog or horse track in your area, those are always fun. It doesn't cost too much to get in and there is time between races to talk and people watch. And, you might even walk out of there with some additional money! Of course, you might want to make sure your date isn't anti-gambling before you take her to the track. If she is, or, you don't have any race tracks in your area, museums are always a good idea.

Dinner is always safe. Any place where you can talk. No clubs, movies, concerts, you waste time in these places not talking. The point is to get to know her, and you can't do that if you're either quiet in a theater or screaming to try to hear each other in a club. Heck, a simple hike will do...park, beach, etc.

Plan a picnic at the park or the beach. This way you can get to know her and it can be romantic, and if it turns out you don't really like her, you didn't spend a bunch of money.

Take her to a nice restaurant and a movie. It never fails. Open doors for her, take her coat, bring her flowers, pull out her chair for her. Things like that.

if you are a little on the older side, grab a cup of coffee with her at starbucks or a local italian joint. like that one guy said, go some place where you can talk that way you can figure out if she is your kind of girl.
