8.57X to be precise. Just divide 300mm by 35mm.

A normal 35 mm camera's lens is equal to 50mm so a 300 mm lens would equal 6 times closer than a normal lens. This is not the case however for a digital camera that uses a 28mm sensor

It all depend on what you're comapring with
300mm (prime lens) = 1x
200mm-300mm = 1.5x
100mm-300mm = 3x
80mm-300mm = 3.75x
35mm-300mm = 8.57x
28mm-300mm = 10.7x
25mm-300mm = 12 x
