Why do peope feel the need to impose their personal music tastes to fellow commuters and travellers on buses? What is wrong with good old headphones? I don't mean for this to sound like rant, any opinion welcome!

I think that a lot of people just don't think that others might not share their tastes in music - it's like people driving in open-top cars with loud steroes, or my neighbour who thinks eveyone around wants to listen to his rubbish records while he works in his garden...(sorry, bit of a rant there).

Some of them are probably a*rsholes, but a lot of them actually think that other people might like to share their music.

PS - if you're reading this and are my neighbour, I HATE KYLIE MYNOGUE! Thank you.

Yep common in London, in fact I saw a woman trying to tear the in ear type headphones off some guy off his head. The problem is is that public transport tends to be quite noisy so these people have to turn their music right up for them to hear it, and of course everyone else can too!.

I think for some there is an element of showing off, as if by 'playing' the music they are somehow producing it.

Another take on this occurs here in China, where 'busmusic' (their own term) rules OK, being institutionalised. Chinese people seem to love noise, and cacophony even more, so it gets blasted at you through every available loudspeaker.

Move to Washington, D.C. On our Metro trains and buses, music without earphones is expressly forbidden.

Oh yes. i find this EXTREMELY annoying!

Idiots who get on the bus, take out their mobile phone and start playing out loud songs that no-one else particularly wants to hear!!

Sometimes i contemplate stealing their phone then giving it back just to teach them a lesson about showing it off in public. you never know right? someone else might stab you for it!
