Number one.... This YahooAnswers category is Genealogy (Family History). It has nothing to do with religion unless one is interested in finding out religious information on one's ancestors.

Number two.... The Pope is only infallible when speaking "ex cathedra".... i.e. from the Throne of Peter.... or better put: "when he solemnly promulgates, or declares, to the Church a decision on faith or morals."

The Roman Chruch defined papal infallibility at the First Vatican Council in 1870.

Number three.... In the recent history of the Roman Catholic Church the Pope has only made two pronouncements that most all Roman Catholic theologians agree were infallible statements:

1)--Dogma of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, the mother of Jesus (i.e. that Mary was born without original sin) in 1854; and 2)--the Dogma of the Assumption of Mary (i.e. Mary was borne into heaven body and soul at the end of her earthly life, pronounced in 1950.

Papal infallibility is often misunderstood by many.... including some Roman Catholics. It has rarely been used by Popes.

All who would be Christian (Catholic).
When one is speaking of papal infallibility, one must keep in mind that the the Pope is infallible, only under certain circumstances.
Some mistakenly think that Catholics believe the Pope is at all times infallible, which is silly, considering the fact he is but a man; it is possible, but unlikely that he is always impeccable.

No human is infallible and he is, after all, just another human, no better or more perfect than any of the rest of us.

He is infallible on spiritual matters and matters concerning the church; he doesn't claim infallibility on everything.
