My dog swims but he looks sad when he swims is it just a dog behavior or does he like to swim if he swims?

How does your dog like a bath. If he hates it, then chances are good that he will hate swimming. Some dogs take to water and some do not. Small dogs like Chihuahuas usually do not like water, because they get cold so easily. Yet a miniature pinscher loves the water, and will sometimes play in one for hours. If your dog does not like the water, I would not force the issue.

As long as he has a "shore" to get out of the water and starts the swimming on his own he's probably enjoying it. In pools, dogs can drown because they might not realize how to get out, or can't get oout if there's a ladder and no steps.
Always let your dogs swim in ponds or creeks where there is a shore and he should be fine.
Happy swimming!

Maybe in a past life he drowned? Just kidding. If he just naturally jumps in, don't worry about it. Lots of dogs LOVE to swim. I've never seen a dog look sad; your dog must be quite a character!

People consider dogs to be happy when theyre "smiling" and unhappy with their mouths are closed. Dogs, like some people, usually swim with their mouths closed. If the dog is going into water on his own and you dont force him, then he is most likely ok with it. However dont confuse your dog's feelings with bathing and swimming...some dogs like to swim, but hate bathes or the other way around. As long as the dog is going into the water by himself he is most likely ok with it, as long as youre not in the water and he thinks youre drowning.

Well if he goes into the water without you having to coax him then he probably likes or at least doesn't mind it. Some dogs don't like the water and also some like to swim only with their owners.

I would agree with some other answers. If your dog likes to take a bath he also probably likes to swim.

One of the biggest mistakes owners make it attributing human emotions to some of the expression dogs have. Dogs are pretty easy to read for their "doggie" signals. If he goes in and out of the water by himself, he likes the water!
