I am 16 years old, and I want to take the driving test to get my license. The problem is I do not know where my Driver's Education completion certificate is. I have everything else, including the 6 hours professional training. Does anybody if this is really needed, or the DMV won't care.

Well, the problem is it costs $50 for me to get another certificate. I don't want to watse $50 if I don't have to, but I also don't want to go to the DMV with nothing, then get sent home.

I know in the two states that I've lived in since I've been old enough to drive, you need to produce proof of driver's ed if you're a minor. You might want to either find it or see if you can get a copy from where you took your driver's ed. If you have a learner's permit though, you might not need the proof, because (in theory anyway) they should've checked that when they issued your permit. Check with your state's DMV. They would be able to tell you for sure.

That depends upon state law. In MA, without the certificate, you'll have to wait until you're 17 to get your license.

You also should pay the $50.00 for a duplicate for another reason. Your insurance rates will be much lower with the certificate. The $50.00 is a small price to pay to save hundreds on insurance.

I'm sure you can go back to your Drivers Ed class to get another copy, then it again in some states the law could be different. I say check back with your Drivers Ed class first.

It might be a requirement in some states, but the biggie is the fact that your insurance rates will be better if you provide the proof of completion.

I don't think you absolutely have to have it in order to take the driving test. You will probably need it to turn in to your insurance company, and they will give you a discount.
