When I recently titled the car I bought for him, I was told the law had changed--he could not even be put as a co-owner on the vehicle until he is 18. Not true?

He has not been legally emancipated and probably won't be as he refuses to get a job. This is his third car since December. His father, who lives in Illinois, has decided to get him another one but I won't take responsibility for it unless he gets off his tail and helps pay for it. My son is abusive to me and what will happen is he'll call at the last minute from the dealership, tell me I have to sign the title and I'll be stuck. He says he can put it in his name. The statute re: no cosigning at age 17 was enacted Jan. 2006. Thanks.

She's below 18, you could constantly threaten to have her put in foster care. i'm particular she'd like to be interior the equipment till she turns 18. this is a tense one. They by no potential understand till it rather is too previous due what your intentions are and don't relish it. somewhat than be emancipated, would desire to she purely stay with somebody short-term to sit down back off? maximum emancipated young ones accomplish that for occupation motives, i.e. so as that they might artwork longer hours (Alicia Silverstone), or because of the fact they are mom and father are undeserving. I wish you the better of success and want each thing works out.

Here are the Missouri Statutes:

http://www.moga.mo.gov/STATUTES/C301.HTM

I can find no reference to age anywhere in those statutes. Ask the clerk to cite the law (statute) that prohibits a 17 year old (or anyone else) from registering a vehicle in Missouri.

If the statute exists, it is well hidden.

They can not sign any legally binding contract untill 18.

Was he legally emancipated by a court, with a court order stating so ?

why wouldnt a 17 year old be able? and why would he have to be emancipated to do so? every state i have ever lived in the owner/title holder doesnt even have to have a drivers liscence, as long as they have insurance on the vehicle, and a liscenced driver to drive it, anyone can own a vehicle.
