Can I describe my dreamhouse?
It would be made of stone and some cedar shingles, with a courtyard, pool and entertaining area in the center, that you can reach from any room. The most important room would be the library, with a hidden door to the wine cellar.
I don't think it matters what part of the world it would be in. If I had a dreamhouse, that would mean I was wealthy and could afford to travel for a change of scenery.

I've always been fond of Franklin Loydd Wright. I also like underground homes, and have always had a soft spot in my heart for kivas made by the Southwestern indians AND traditional Japanese design. Unfortunately, I live in a part of the country that has a lot of rainfall and floods about every 15-20 years...
Ideally though, I would have an underground structure designed after a large scale kiva, sectioned off into 5 rooms. One central room, with 4 (1/4 circle) rooms radiating off the middle. Instead of doors, the rooms would be accessed by soji screens, making it possible to open the space up as needed.
Since this is a fantasy, LOL, there would be skylights in each of the smaller rooms, and several in the central room in a circular pattern in the roof. The entire living area would be underground, being accessed through a dormer in the roof. The rest of the space above the living quarters would house the permanent appliances (like the water heater) and be used for storage. Closets would be built into the walls between the outer rooms for storage of everyday items.
The furnishings would be Japanese, or at least made from natural materials. The central living room would have a low Japanese dining table in the center of the room and double as a dining area. The four outlying rooms would be a kitchen, a bedroom, a bathroom, and a den/media room.
I picture this as a 60' circular structure, wall to wall, making each room 20' wide. With a bathroom that size, I'm thinking a sauna and hottub would be nice additions... (Tell me, who doesn't want a house with 4 20' wide closets and a bathroom big enough to have a sauna AND hottub incorporated into the design?!)
Realistically though, I'll probably retire to a travel trailer and tour the states...

My dream house is getting remodeled as we speak. Just bought an old Victorian built in 1899 in a tiny town in Indiana. Walnut trim, full basement, large 7ft tall windows, hardwood floors, big back yard, can walk to grocery stores and down town.
For me it is not so much the house as it is the people who I share it with. Mainly my family and friends. Whenever I picture my dream home I always see my kids at Christmas or a barbecue in the back yard with friends. It is more a feeling of "home" and being settled and happy. Of course I will love my new floors and furniture, but in the end it is the atmosphere of love and happiness!
Sorry I got all mushy on you.

A home that had the characteristics of a Richard Neutra home. Plenty of open space, large stretches of windows and sliding glass panels. Stone and wood applied in minimalistic ways. A greenhouse garden attached as a kind of atrium on one side to transition from the interior to the exterior. And lots and lots of land. Oh, to be the owner of Hearst Castle.... now THERE'S a dream home. But, oh, the maintenance!

the one that sits up on the hill that I know I will never be able to afford,... And my second choice would be one on wheels that I could move anywheres I want,,,,and be able to afford not to have to work anymore so I could enjoy it.. but I know Iwill have to work for the rest of my life, because my paycheck dosent come from the government in the mail every month like all of my neighbors.... so depressing... at least I have the satisfaction of working for what I have in life... and the self esteme from it
