older woman and younger man means that older woman is beautiful but can't establish a long-term relationship or she has been career driven, the younger man maybe experimenting or is mature himself and wants an independent mature woman.
younger woman and older man means that the younger woman prefers a father figure or wants an established partner, the older man values physical beauty and wants to satisfy his sexual appetite.

i think there is a stigma the other way around, too...
if i dated this older guy i have a thing for, his professional partners would not look upon us approvingly-and my family! oh i can't even imagine how rough that would look.
but i think it is worse when the women's older because the man typically is the breadwinner and provider, therefore the more stable, wiser and established person in the perfect world-- so a woman to go under a man's wing fits with our idea of hetero relationships, (also i think men seem to take years to grow up and develop into the type of man a healthy woman would want to be with... and for a woman to date a younger man... well 'what is she thinking?' and it's like he's her son or something,... can be much more disturbing?

I'll try to answer this with as much as I know. I'm 54. My second wife was 10 years younger than I. She was young and made me feel young. My girlfriend now is 12 years younger than I and we get along great. We have our scrapes, but she loves me. I love her and that's the most important thing not the age difference. Compatibility that's the ticket.

Older guys iwht younger women always look bad mostly because quite a bit of the time hes using her inexperience and not knowing to take advantage. the other way around if its a large enough gap i kinda disapprove of it a bit but allwell nothin i can do so i ignore it

an older guy with a younger girl makes him look like a perv in most peoples eyes. but an older woman and younger guy is normal in most peoples eyes.
