I want to know how long Adam and Eve were in the garden before they began to die... There's the rub!
There is no verifiable answer to this question so... "We cannot say because the Bible doesn't say" is the only true acceptible answer.
This is an experiment, be creative and have a bit of fun with this one. I have a theory but I won't share it until I get some other opinions.

How's this? Adam and Eve didn't start living until they started dying. I know that sounds wierd but hear me out a bit...
Adam and Eve weren't dying before they sinned, so one could say they weren't living either. Or better put, they weren't accumulating what we would call age or years. Does anyone see where I am going with this???

There really is no way of telling how long they were in the garden. If the information ever existed, it didn't get passed down to Moses, or he just didn't include it when he wrote Genesis.

I think that if it had been a long time, they would have had other encounters with Satan that would have been recorded. But they would also have become aware of his true nature and would not have sinned.

I would get that it was a very short time; less than a year.

Adam lived to be 970 yrs old. Also they were in the garden 40 days before they had to leave the garden. Believe it or not.

Years were not counted the same then as they are now. I don't believe there is a way to calculate the years. Years may have been a relative number to a time in history's past, as opposed to a definite time period in the now.

It does not matter how long they lived in the garden because the other people that lived after them lived long lives too.

the Bible says that "adam lived" so many years before having children, it is impossible to tell how old he would have seemed when he was created. life is life. whether created or born, living is living.

My theory:

Adam and Eve didn't write Genesis.
Seth didn't write Genesis, he must have heard it from Adam
Enos didn't write Genesis, he must have heard it from Seth
Cainan didn't write Genesis, he must have heard it from Enos
Mahalalel didn't write Genesis, he must have heard it from Cainan

...see where I'm going with this? and that's ASSUMING Genesis has truth to it. I think its an ancient urban legend that made the most sense at the time.
