My 8 week old kitten's cornea fell out...absolutely horrible...and he had his eye stiched shut today. I brought him home flipping out. He bounced off walls, my fridge, my oven, smashing into things, falling down and going at it again 5 miles faster. Im terrifed of leaving him alone for a few moments, he keeps trying to get the collar off..thus gagging himself. What do I do?

Call your vet for advice. Kitty may need to be sedated until he calms down.

Those collars are not only annoying to the cat, they are dangerous. If I were you, I'd keep him in the hospital for a few days until the pain subsides. It's well worth the expense as the vet can keep an eye on him. Once home, I would confine him to a large cage, if you have one. If not, borrow one from your vet. (If your vet doesn't have an extra one, rent one.) Let the cat out only when you can keep an eye on him. Those collars can get caught and lead to serious injury. After about a week, you may be able to take the collar off for short periods and let him play. Otherwise keep him confined until the eye heals.

I agree with the other answers, you may also consider mostly confining him to the safest room where he could hurt himself the least, along with a blanket or something that will feel comforting.

We have an indoor/outdoor cat that was a former stray, to her being outside much of the day is a MUST. She's twice had to have a cone on her head and had to stay in for a few weeks. Boy was she unhappy. Not easy but she got through. I'm sure once your little one calms down and adjusts with or without a sedative he will be okay. Good luck : )

Those collars are horrible. I don't care what breed of animal or its age, I don't know an animal that likes then. On the flip side, your kitten is going a little over board. I would call the vet and let them know what is going on. They will probably give your cat some kind of sedation just to calm it down. I would be afraid that it is going to re-injure its eye or injure itself elsewhere. Good Luck and lay off the cat nip for awhile.

I think the only thing you can do is hold him as much as possible. If you can hold him and take his collar off and see if he calms down, that might be a temporary solution -- until you have to put him down, that is. He may be overwhelmed. Vet visit, eye stitched shut, seeing funny, awful torture-collar attached -- plus it's possible he's in pain with his eye and he can't reach it to try to make it stop. Imagine how you would react if you hurt your eye and had your hands tied and couldn't reach your face.. Vet calls are the best idea, but I'd hold the baby as much as possible.

When it comes to animals, always remember: "everything is easier for me if you're with me"

Put the poor thing in a large dog cage, even if you have to borrow one from the pet store! In the meantime, call the vet that is what they are there for!

Call the vet and tell him about the cats behavior. It also might be wise for you to get a cat carrier and put everything it will need in it for when you go out so it will be safe. I had to do that with my sick cat.
