would you: a) cross over and live a better life, b)stay there?

*It is obvious that many mexicans chose a better life, since it is simply terribly easy. If we know this and we are the great country we are(U.S.) AND WE ARE SO KIND WITH POOR and DISAbLED COUNTRIES LIKE IRAK don't WE FIND A REASONABLE AND kIND RESOLUTION?

isn't it hipocritical to do something like causing a war in Irak with the excuse that you want to somehow help the poor helpless people over there and then when it comes to immigration they back off that statement and don't stay true. If we are SO KIND why aren't we kind all the way.

No I have seen many poor who do not break the law. Look on Web and talk to Social Workers. Many poor follow laws and do the best they can.

Laws are protection for many.

Hypothetically, if I was poor and lived in Mexico, but at the same time I knew that USA was a much better place to skip town and live there - depends on my living situation and rather I have family or not will depend rather I will smuggle to the U.S. illegally or not. It'll just depend. If I was single and knew that I have nothing to loose - why not? But, if I have family and close friends, I'd probably won't leave them behind. There's gotta be another way to cross through the Mexican border legally with rights!! without getting arrested and put in jail. If you have been paying close attention to the local news and our Gov't, you would have noticed that our nation is trying to figure out a better way to cross the border legally instead of illegally. I'm sure in the next 10 years, things will change and that immigrants may be able to cross without any hold up between two countries.

Did anyone know that US citezens can live on Mexican territory without any problem? We can retire in Cabo, Cancun ect... While we collect social security tax from the US. At what point in time is the USA going to peacfully occupy Mexico, not like we are doing in Iraq and Afghanistan but in a more peacful manner, and improve their living situation there? This way they don't feel the desperate need to come here, which by the way doesn't bother me one bit, however, it would benefit all involed. If Mexican citizens want to live in America why not make Mexico a part of America? There is a lot of money in tourism to be made from expanding our border into that country. I don't mean war I just mean having talks with the Mexican government about such an idea. Bring America to them in other words.

I agree with everyone here who said they would stay in Mexico and try to make things better there. This was a great question and I enjoyed reading all of the responses here.

I also can't help thinking what kinds of bad effects it can be having on the Mexican and Central American countries that so many of their young men leave to work many years in the USA, leaving their children fatherless at home? Do the financial benefits REALLY outweigh the negative effects of their children growing up with absent fathers? I realize that many young women go to the USA, also, often leaving their children with the grandparents. This, also, I think cannot be good for the well being of their children. There may be severe repercussions of this, yet to come.

If you don't mind lying and telling your children to constantly lie, you can go to a different school than is assigned to your address. However, no matter how settled you get there, if you are ever found out, you will be kicked out.

I blame our government for letting it be so easy for them to come, but it is still breaking the law, and they knew the penalty when they came.

I actually would support legalization of screened illegals here (NOT with ability to bring in more family) if the border were really secure, employer enforcement were in place and we dismantled the programs that give illegal immigrants benefits here, since they are a magnet that draws more illegals across the border. (Remember we would be starting fresh at that point, and trying to make it less attractive for other illegals to come.)

However, it is a matter of numbers and we already have too many poor immigrants straining the school and health services we subsidize. If we did legalize those here, I would not be ok with also greatly expanding immigration for an additional 'guest worker' program, until a need were demonstrated and the employers were made to provide for the education and health care for their guest worker employees.

I would probably stay. I would rather set a good example for my starving children. I would work hard, save pesos if I could and keep on keeping on. Plenty of Americans have lived in poverty, plenty still do. Many have worked had and risen above poverty. I remember going to school with kids who had nothing. They got picked on because they wore the same shoes to go to school and play after school. If I lived in Mexico, and was poor, my kids would be inspired to work hard and rise above, I would make that my mission in life. Parents have to set the standard for the kids, and keep the kids motivated to do the right thing. also, I am patriotic. I suppose that if I was born and raised in Mexico, I would be just as patriotic towards that country. I consider these so called men sneaking across the border, cowards. They would rather run from their problems than to face them head on. Taking the easy way out is hardly ever the right choice. We could have dropped nukes on Hussein, the easy way. but instead chose to send troops to get him out of power, the hard way. If the Mexicans would do things the correct way, they would scrimp and save and send their children here for higher education or trade school, then the kids would have some type of skill to take home. They could use those skills to help build their country into a prosperous one. They just aren't doing anything the right way. Protesting, demanding, insulting United States citizens won't get them anything. Maybe the government will give them amnesty, but what good will that do when Americans won't respect them, or treat them as equals. They will gain nothing, and the country will loose because we will have yet another minority underclass.

No, I would not, its against the law. I would stay in my own country go to school and get a job. There are a lot of people in Mexico that make a good living. Not everyone is poor in that country. The minimum wage in that country is 4.00 an hour, that's not far behind what ours is here in America and the cost of living is a lot higher in our country than in Mexico, so it seems as though it would benefit them to stay in their own country, those that are willing to work that is and not just wanting a free ride. I would not want to leave my family and my home country, not knowing when I could get back because I came illegally. No, I would stay in my own country.
We have folks in our own country that are poor, and some of our elderly are in bad financial need, but our own people can't be helped like they should because we are too busy helping other countries. America needs to focus on its own citizens.

Lets pretend that if you want to become an American citizen that you start by following the law. I as an American citizen, want a wall built, and I would like for the Mexican country to respect the USA, we as American citizens would not be afforded the same rites as a Mexican citizen if we were to come there illegally even if we went there legally, we would not be allowed to become members of the clergy, run for any political positions, and a lot of other things. I don't want people that are here illegally to reep the same benefits as I do because they have not earned that rite, its not my fault that a person is born in Mexico so why should I along with other Americans be taxed to death to help support those people that are not legally supposed to be here in the first place?

it is taking your life into your hands to cross over illegally.
if the Mexicans don't kill you to take your money .

you may drown or get killed whilst crossing ,
or you may be hunted by bounty hunters on the American side .
most people go over to visit family that are there already.

and racism is getting worse in the USA.
i advice all the Mexicans to develop their own country ,where they got much more connections and resources,

if everybody did that Mexico would become a better place
with a better Economy,
In the town where i am 50%of all school leavers go to the USA,and they are always the more clever ones ,the lazy and stupid stay behind to fak up the country.
more than 50 qualified engineers come from one town in in chiapas,i asked how many worked in their own town ,where they all got land and connections .
and not one of them does ,they are all over the place ,
}Again these guys should go home and develop their own place
if every body did that this country could become something .
instead everybody leaves the safety of the country for a few pesos more in the super over crowded ,dangerous cities

Let's say you were walking down the street and a riot broke out and you soo sooooo easily took merchandise from a store and too bad for you someone caught you on camera and you got arrested, you could never have what was in the store that you took, but you figured no one would notice or care. In fact it was something you could use to make money with to feed your starving children because you don't qualify for welfare.

Should you be prosecuted?

Being a rich country doesn't make us a charity. What good is being an American citizen if you have to support the world first, until you have nothing left to give or have a chance at the dream?

Mexico is rich!! 13th our of 180!! illegals have organized labor!! No one works for a buck an hour!!!

Give me a break!!!

I'd definitely come to the US why not nobody really wants to stop me from coming so why not. Big companies will pay me money to work and since I'm mexican they will give me the job over an American because they can pay me less. Then I can take that money and go back home to Mexico where I can afford whatever I want. Then go back the next day to work, oh did I mention that I can get on welfare and also bring my pregnant wife to go "shopping" and then oops look her water broke in America now I get to go to an American hospital and get our baby delivered and look now he an American and we can apply for citizenship easier cause we have a sponsor. I love America, it has the easiest borders to cross in the world. The immigration laws are a joke, unlike any other country. Why not come to America I don't have to pay for anything, the Americans pay me to work and to stay here its the life. (if you didn't catch it I'm being sarcastic)
