Jesus,God in the flesh came to earth to be the perfect representation of what God intented for man to live by: HUMBLE, patient, loving, etc.
Therefore, Jesus humbled himself when others tried to label him as God, instead he glorified God the Father even though he was also God.
You may know from the scripture...
"In the begining was the word(Jesus), and the word was with God and the word was God."

This is what happens when sacred scripture is taken out of the context of the sacred tradition of the Church which the bible came from.

Sacred scripture should not be up to personal interpretation. It even says this plainly in the bible. That's why it is the Church that Jesus founded which is the great interpreter of scripture. Jesus instituted the office of the Pope and gave the Holy Spirit to all successors of the apostle Peter to settle any disputes infallibly with regard to faith and morals.

And Jesus gave all authority to His Church to teach in matters of faith and morals until Jesus comes again.

I don't know why DougDoug doesn't know that Jesus is the Word of God.

John 1:1,2; KJV "In the beginning was the word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God." In the original Greek text in which it is written in it reads thusly, " In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with the God and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with the God." There is no such thing as 'God in the flesh', it is simply not in the bible. It does say however that 'God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself' 2Cor 5:19. quite a big difference, don't you think? Besides, if Christ was God, and God is immortal ( that is He can not die ), then Jesus would still be hanging upon that cross today, still waiting to die. Jesus' name before His incarnation was Micheal, God's name is Jehovah. Ps 83:18. now you know why. Why is Jesus referred to a The Word? Because, God created everything through Him, His Son, Jesus (Michael) repeated every thing that God said, thus becoming the Word of God. 'And the Word was made flesh' the Word, not The God, was made flesh. Get it? Can you grasp this simple concept? It was hard for me at first, but with a lot of prayer, humbleness before God, and Bible (KJV) study if finally grasped it, you can too.

You might look up this scripture

John 12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which has sent me.

Or John 14:28 for my Father is greater than I.

In the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus prayed "Father if there be any way possible, remove this cup from; but not My will but Thine".

He did not say on the cross "Forgive them oh Self for they know not what they do.

He said "Forgive them Father, they know not what they do".

According to some Christian beliefs Jesus should not be called the Son of God, for how can you be the Son and The Father also?

Jesus was the Son of God. Acting for God, he was a Prophet sent from our Heavenly Father to teach us and die for our sins. He was not God the Father himself. There is God, The Son, and The Holy Ghost! Whoever said he was the "Word" sounds like a new age type of Church, but they will also tell you that he wasn't God Himself. Jesus was to spread the "Word" throughout the world, to all peoples and all nations, but he was a messenger for God the Father, and as His son died on the cross for all of us. Jesus was human just like the rest of us, until he was resurrected and became Holy himself. But he was not God, but it's ok, we all misunderstand the Bible, and some of the teachers don't realize they aren't really clear on their talk that Sunday! Amen!

That the Word is Jesus is verse 14 of the same chapter. He just saved you having to read a few more lines.

I always have to laught when people who don't believe something (like the Bible) then use it as an authority to prove something. "I don't believe the Bible because after all it says...." So I am in agreement with the question, why anyone use the Bible as their authority to prove it is false?

Jesus and God are not the same. Jesus is the son of God. God created the world and Jesus was sent down from heaven to do Gods work and to die for our sins. No-where does it say that Jesus is God - it says he does Gods work.
Jesus prayed to God and answered to God, so how could he be God?

Because they do not read the bible in the spirit in which it was written while being obedient to the constant faith that has been passed down through the ages.

Throughout history, people have interpreted the bible to mean many things. From Marcion to Arius if one does not hold on to what has been passed down from the apostles, one will easily misinterpret scripture.

The Bible never said that Jesus is God, he is godlike having the same qualities as his Father. John 3:16 said "for God loved the world so much he sent his only begotten Son,in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life." How could God send himself ?
John 14:24 Jesus said "he that does not love me does not observe my words; and the word that you are hearing is not mine, but belongs to the Father who sent me." Does it make sence that if Jesus is God he would say that the word you are hearing is not mine but belongs to the Father who sent him?
Romans 8:17 says "if, then, we are children, we are also heirs: heirs indeed of God, but joint heirs with Christ provided we suffer together that we may also be glorified together." Is it possible to be heirs of God and joint heirs with God, it makes no sence does it?
Finally 1 Corinthians 15:27,28, it says "for God subjected all things under his feet. But when he says that 'all things have been subjected,' it is evident that it is with the exception of the one who subjected all things to him. But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him, that God may be all things to everyone." Is it possible that Jesus could subject all things to himself, then subject himself to himself doesn't sound reasonable does it?

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one.

I'm as puzzled as you are by that action myself. I suppose that the thing is that, though many humans like to perceive themselves as truth-seekers, many are not. Some simply want to do things like take scripture out of context and bend and twist the truth to fit their preconceptions of things. So, they probably start with the assumption that Jesus isn't God, and then try to take scripture out of context to "prove" their assumption. That's all it is, though. An assumption. That assumption is passed down to others, and that's how it continues. People start with a false premise and then try to find "evidence" to support that premise. That's how humans are sometimes. They want to shape reality instead of facing it.
