Do you really think they treated our troops to fine dining and movies while they held them captive or while they cut off the heads of civilian contractors from the US? It's time the military take the question to the US citizens and ask if everything up until now should be over looked? I bet the citizens would vote YES!! leave our military (family, sons and daughters alone)! do you agree?

Not a simple answer.Mercy is luxury in war,it's true, but anywhere in the world either civilian and military treat the prisoners badly, even in the most admiring Human Right like US.
It's was the most stupid conduct that the US soldiers themself took the picture of their misbehavior.

Personally I say I agree with you,who cares how the US treats the prisoners, since they have been savages treating and beheaded the US CIVILIAN.It's more than the animal conducts! Bastards!

But on the other hands, soldiers must obey the Conduct of Soldiers,Rules and Regulation. If the US Soldiers don't obey this conduct anymore, there is no honour of being the US soldiers, they are no more than brutal mercenaries.

And yes,the US is one the first countries who signed the Geneva Convention is which the treatment of POW also regulated. If US as one of the signers plays truant to a commitment that solemnly signed, how would the enemies of the US say about that?Of course they would treat the US soldiers captured as a big liar, they would be more and more brutal in treating the soldiers.

So a long as the US still bound to the Geneva Convention, and not withdrawing his commitment. This kind of thing of mistreating the prisoners in Iraq is not allowed.

I believe that when people (soldiers) get scared, when they are removed from familiar and safe surroundings and are being shot at regularly. A strange detatchment and animalistic instinct takes shape in the psyche of those individuals. Winston Churchill once said '' Nothing is as exilirating as being shot at without result''. Little comfort when it's Nato 7.62's whizzing by and there is the constant threat of a violent messy end. Let us not forget that these servicemen and women are drawn from the dissaffected and poorest classes of our society and are usually average folk trying to better themselves with the valuable skills gleaned from their term in uniform, and most harboured little expectation of being actually involved in a real live shooting war. To fully understand the stress of battle the so called fog-of-war one has to be there and walk a mile in their shoes. It's wrong to degrade and humiliate the citizens of a foreign land, especially when the mission is liberation BUT...Bring them all home I say, cease the senseless culling of innocents and refuse to feed the greed. In the words of Lt. Col Bill Kilgore (101st Aircav-Airmobile) Apocalypse Now 'you know someday this war is gonna end!' War is hell...

Use that same notion if you ca n to justify German war Crimes committed during the past World War! War is meant to be conducted on a Field of honour between two parties that have intractable differences, just like a gentleman's duel.....And at lone last if you say you are the better and more honourable man then by all means demonstrate it in both word and deed!

How utterly, utterly, stupid and ill informed. We are civilised people. Do you honestly think that the services could recruit and keep educated and intelligent men & women if they were expected to endorse, illegal and brutal activity? The answer is no. Why don't we all carry knives and guns and kill, rape or maim anyone who pisses us off? That is anarchy. You obviously have no understanding of the Geneva convention and undoubtedly no understanding of the hearts and minds of Service People. My husband is a Senior Officer who has thus far served two Tours of Iraq. It was his, and his Comrades job to clear up the mess made by this illegal war and he would have no truck with any of his Soldiers who let their animal instincts get the better of them. They would be dishonourably discharged after Court Martial. Thier job is to Serve and protect, not to lower themselves to the lowest Common denominator!

no i don't agree with you at all. It is simply unreasonable to torture prisioners recall the geneva convention. How can americans claim to be bringing democracy to iraq and act in such an undemocratic way if in fact you have profound respect for human rights then you must apply them in the most crucial times specifically in war. As a nation that prides it self in democratic values and human rights you can not pick and choose when to be democractic and when not to be. The actions by american soldiers is simply unamerican. War is not an exuse to commit savagery.

The USA is no better than the terrorists when they resort to torture.

It doesn't represent what America should be, it makes America look cruel. You're fighting against terrorism, and you're fighting against things like people being tortured, but you turn around and do the same.

America seem hypocritical to me.

And yes, I actually am American.

Just because it is a war, doesn't mean we can do whatever we want. There are still rules to follow. If we don't follow the rules, no one else would either, and then you would have a whole new topic to gripe about. Grow up!

Americans are supposed to be better than that, but I guess you want this country to lose its ideals and sink to that level, don't you?

If so, you can be the first to take the words " One nation, under God" out of the pledge of Allegiance.
