Keep in mind that defraging the IS .edb file is NOT going to defrag the IS internally. On a properly designed system, the IS is on a drive (or partition) by itself, so fragmentation should not become a significant issue.

The temp files are deleted at each backup, so I'd suggest running Diskeeper on a scheduled basis after each backup to keep the .edb and .stm files as tidy as possible. Do this during off-peak hours.

I've never seen defrag take more than an hour on a modern-ish server with a normal IDE drive. I'd need more info to answer more accurately. But if the processor is over 1 Ghz, you're prob in the 1 hour ballpark

It depends on the size of the drive and the amount of free space. You can always set Diskeeper to run with high priority at night and continue later on (or with a low priority during the day).

Set it to run continuously for about an hour each day during periods of low-usage. That should take care of any routine fragmentations.

i think u should use exeutil to defrag ur database
