its normal for a dog to try and mate with certain things after being neutered. they really don't know that they are neutered so they will continue with the mating process they will just be shooting blanks. my dog is a female who was spaded and she trys to hump things so its not unusual.

It is perfectly normal for a puppy to hump things, especially if it is a highly dominating breed such as a doberman or a min-pin. Humping of objects/ other dogs is not necessarily a sexual thing, but more often than not it is a display of dominance. It can also be territory marking, such as the case with your blanket. He is just declaring that it is his and wants the world to know it.

Humping is a act of domination over what ever it my be that is why some times you will even see female dogs do this to other dog, people, or objects they are showing their domination over them. They are saying hey I'm the Alpha dog and I am in charge here and you need to submit to me it is just something that is implanted with in them but you can change his habit by discipline. When he does this pull him away and make him sit and tell him NO! with a firm voice basically you need to establish that you are the dominate one here and that he needs to submit start now and you will not have issues later on.

Very normal! My 7mth old started humping things when she was 3/4mths old as well... The vet said it can be from boredom or as a sign of dominance over other things as well!

it can be. i have an 8 y/o dog that's been neutered for 7.5 yrs and occasionally he tries to hump things. dogs are strange and who knows what snaps in their head that makes them decide they need to hump something.

I had my dog fixed at a young age and he still does that. Many dogs still engage in that behavior even when they're fixed. It's a dominance thing.

Yes this is very common, usually stops when they get older, neutering usually helps. I cant tell you exactly how to stop it but do not laugh when he does do it this encourages him.
