I think that many Christians (including myself) get mad not because we like to pick on one sin in particular (I have more problems with the other six deadly sins myself) but because sex is prevalent all around us. Sex is something that was created by God for a married man and woman to share to bring them together in their relationship. Therefore, it is sacred. The problem is that we have every television show, every commercial, every magazine ad, every movie touting sexy women that women's husbands lust after (Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife) and that can make women feel inferior and hurt. And vice versa...although women aren't as visual creatures as men are. I think that out of all of the sins, the sin of lust destroys families the fastest and that is why Christians are so hung up on the sin of lust. (Sex is not a sin and is encouraged within a marraige).

What makes you think that all sins carry equal weight in God's eyes? In Proverbs 6 we find "There are 6 things the Lord hates, yes 7 that are an abomination to Him...", then it lists them.
Also you have His 10 Commandments. Neither list was man-made, but are God's inspired revelation. Not every sin is listed here, but those causing God the greatest concern - for reasons He knows.
Sexual sin is very comprehensive in its effect on those around you, as well as more harmful to the sinner that can be imagined. If you need to verify, try Proverbs chapters 5, 6, and 7.

Sex is not a sin. It is holy when used as it is meant to be used. The twisted counterfeit of lustful sex or sex outside of marriage or sex with contraception is a sin because it goes against God's declaration.
And it is a sin equal to others. However, you may feel Christians are 'hung up' because lust is one of the most prevalent temptations in our modern society.
Christians see sex and something greater and holier than we can ever really grasp. It is one of the most sacred and joyous things we can do in life, if it is according to God's will. Since it hold such holiness and is so incredibly sacred it also holds strong weight on the heart of those that abuse it.
Sex is the physical act of love. Love is entirely self-giving without reservation. If one is not married then they have reserved a lifelong commitment from a person they have sex with. If they use contraception then they reserve their fertility to each other. Sex is holy when it is truly loving. When it is a selfless gift to your spouse whom you promised yourself to on the wedding day. It is one of the greatest things that God ever created when it abides in His guidelines.
To hold anything back of yourself during sex is lying with your body. You are comitting actions which speak what you are not backing up in love. That is damaging to the dignity and souls of both people.

Because they are fond of butting into other people's business and trying to decide how everyone else should live, while they themselves commit the same sexual immorality as everyone else.
Hey, Christians, why don't you ask the Holy Spook to give you some warning when there's a pervert pastor in your church, fondling little children? Yeah, that same pastor stands up in front of the pew-warmers and declares the evils of sexual perversions while you all nod in agreement like bobble-head sheep. Is the Holy Spirit on vacation when this stuff happens, or what? And until you get your act cleaned up in your own churches, keep your mouths shut about sexual immorality, mkay? You're not exactly the ones to be making any kind of judgements.

According to whom are all sins the same? I do not believe this is biblical. Why are there seven deadly sins? Why in the OT are there different consequences for sins, most sexual sins the consequence being death, while stealing only requires giving the item back and then some.

I am a Christian but I am not hung up on sex. In fact, I like sex.
Do you mean, sex as a sin? No, I don't think it is sin in the eyes of God. Why do you think he created Eve? Adam was lonely!

It's not that they're hung up on sex. In order for man-kind to procreate we have to have sex. Also, if you research the human anatomy you realize that there is copious amounts of nerve endings in both genders genitalia(meaning we are encourage to have sex), the real problem is human nature like letting sex being our only focus, chasing women or men, women whoring themselves constantly, etc.

A christian will not be able to answer you accurately. They will only be able to throw biblical quotes around. Because logically, and I use that word loosely around religious people, they should not be hung up because as you say, god says they are all the same. Humans use religious texts to suit there own agendas.

in a way youre right, all sin is sin, but God actually does specify sexual sin as different. I corinthians 6:18 points out "all other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body." the following verses explain that its because our bedies are temples of the holy spirit. so all sin is bad, but not all sins are necessarily the same.
