I have owned these dogs all my life but outside of the south they are unheard of.

Yes, but they're not recognized by the AKC because their owners would rather hunt with them than show them at dog shows. Great dogs if you like hounds.

A dog doesn't have to be common all over the place to be a legitimate breed. In fact, popularity is very harmful to many breeds.

From what I know of Redbones, like many hound dogs they need space and exercise and are not the right match for all pet owners anyway. They're a working breed, and it's just as well to see them bred for what they're intended for and not "dumbed down" for pet homes.

They are gorgeous dogs and I am sure they are a legtimate breed-How lucky you are to have raised them all your life. They must be a great source of joy and pride to you. Enjoy those beautiful hounds.

Of course! I believe they they are UKC registerable and had heard they were on the fast track to be AKC as well. They are very nice and I have seen them up here in the northern midwest as well.

Nice dogs!
