Hepatitis C is a liver disease caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV).
The infection is spread by contact with the blood of an infected person.
Serious for some, but not others, most people who get hepatitis C carry the virus for the rest of their lives.
Most have some liver damage but many do not feel sick from the disease.
As a result of the liver damage, cirrhosis (scarring) of the liver and liver failure may develop.

For a slight majority of patients, the illness begins suddenly as though one had come down with the flu.
Except that this "flu" doesn't seem to completely go away.
For many other patients, the onset appears gradually over a long period of time.
Infants and young children often have no symptoms at all.

Many other symptoms may also be present, however they will typically be different among different patients.
These include: fatigue, low-grade fever, headaches; slight sore throat, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, stiff or aching joints, and liver damage.
Many people develop a pain in the right side, over the liver area. The urine may become dark brown, and the feces may be pale. In severe acute infections, some people may develop jaundice in which the skin and whites of the eyes become yellowish.

The degree of severity from Hepatitis C can differ widely among patients, and will also vary over time for the same patient. Severity can vary between getting unusually fatigued following stressful events, to being totally bedridden and completely disabled.
The hepatitis c symptom has a tendency to wax and wane over time.

I believe it is a drug called interferon, but there are other treatments which are supposed to work better. I have a friend with hep c and she has to watch her diet because of her liver and nasty chemicals. She is tired all the time, especially when she comes in contact with certain "allergens". She went to an allergy specialist and he pointed out some of the things she is allergic to and she noticed those things drained her energy more. She has been going without any treatment and doing it all with diet. Organic foods are getting more affordable. The biggest concern is with the liver. All of us also help to keep her from getting bogged down and troubleshooting the things around which aggrevate the condition. So caring friends and family is excellent treatment too.

You should be sceptical of your doctor, all doctors, they do not always know what is best. The only way to know is to have a long relationship with them or listen to their logic. And if they can't/won't explain something to you to where you can understand it then find someone else. No one asks for a second opinion anymore. There are many treatments this country doesn't know about which are far better and less chemically poisoned.

Oh I am so sorry, the treatment is very painful and if you don't complete it you die. How on earth did you get this. It's not easy to get unless you have relations with dirt bags

Response to Tom, what exactly is a lie, if you let hep c go untreated for any amoutnt of time it isn't just taking pills there are a lot of shots, so painful. If it goes untreated you die. All true. So bite me tom you douche bag

Just work with your Doctors and take all the meds they prescibe. They'll cure it. Hep C is serious but I do believe with good care you'll be fine. You should be scared of NOT getting treated, ok? You don't mess with hepatitis.

ps Just read the above reply. This person is nasty and you should pay no attention to them. What a complete JERK you are for posting an answer that is lies and garbage to someone who is ill. Please get counseling for your anger.

If you were diagnosed with hep c then you should talking to the doctor who diagnosed you. Treatment is different for everyone but your doc should know what to do. Ask her/him. I would not leave the office or hangup the phone without somekind of answer.

eat healthy foods , work hand in hand withyour medical practioner.. avoid smoking and alcohol... they will cause further damage to your liver and try to be careful about your body secretions/fluids... it can transmit through fecal-oral and sexually..
