Neither dog is a great gaurd dog. They may both be fierce and violent when provoked but their natural upbringing as fight dogs is different from a guard dog.
A guard dog is fierce when the need arises but it is also well disciplined and works on command. Now I am not saying that neither could be trained but their track record is not the most stellar. If you are looking for a true guard dog I would go with the German Sheppard. This is what this dog was born for and bread for.
Another good one, even though they are considered the worlds best family dog is the Lab. They are usually well tempered and very obiedient and their loyalty is known far and wide. With the correct training I think one would be the best guard dog.
I hope this is of use. I am sorry that I did not think either of your breeds would be good. If you are only interested in the two and I had to choose between them, I would say the pitbull would have more discipline than the rottweiler.

I would say the rottweiler since the pit bull has a different breeding, which is dog fighting, and the rottie was bred more for protection. Either dog is sufficient as long as you train, treat and maintain the dog well.

Your question is kind of scary. Unless you have a professionally trained guard dog, you would be better off with a LOUD dog. I have had dobermans, german shephards, rhodesian ridgebacks, etc. and let me tell you, the best guard dogs we have are a mini doxie and an australian sheepdog. They are LOUD and they are persisitent. They raise holy heck when anyone comes around. Alarm companies will tell you that just the presence of a dog BOWL is a deterent to intruders. What you want is to make your home look like more hassel than it is worth..and the bad guys will move on. A good guard dog is one that is loud and safe to have around your family and friends, and especially children.

It all depends on the way you train your dog. You could even make a small dog "protective".

Yeah, I think I would go with a German Shepard because pitbulls and rottwielers have temperment issues.

It really depends on how well they are trained. If they were both equally well trained, I would say a rottweiler. They are bigger, and they bite harder.
