When attending various churches it has been my experience that much attention is given to the same religious rituals; reading verses, singing songs and collecting donations from the parishioners. I've yet to hear a sermon about the importance of brotherhood, tolerence and loving thy neighbor.

Read almost any talk by President Gordon B Hinkley of the LDS church, he is constantly talking about how we should be kinder and more neighborly!

non secular tolerance. that is needed to have a present day society. it really is not any longer taught contained in the old testomony. that is in undemanding words some thing human beings have arise with so as no longer to justify killing one yet another over a stupid perception device. Roman Catholics did not practice this. Christians did not. Muslims did not. maximum religions do not even comprehend what the heck they remember on, only observing some passages and then forming beliefs round them. The further and extra you be taught, the further and extra you're unfolded to believing in technology and rational idea.

Western fundamentalist religion doesn't stress tolerance mostly because it spreads and preserves itself through xenophobia and intolerance. If christians thought that other people were worth any respect they might listen to what non-christians said and would very probably leave the religion for something nicer or more sensible.
All the talk of christian love is mostly used to mask brutality and bullying:
'I love my family, but I had to beat them because they were sinning'
'I didn't want to hurt them, they made me do it because they broke the rules.'
'If those gays didn't want to go to re-education camps, they shouldn't have been sinners.'
It's a pathetic and mean head-f*ck, and most smart people catch on to it pretty quickly.

My brother we have been too intolerant. Tolerance is not a degree of how you accept something. Either you tolerate something or you do not. We can not continue to tolerate things, especially within our churches and communities that hurt us and those around us. Being intolerant does not mean grabbing a big stick and beating people with it.

Jesus Christ didn't tolerate other customs and beliefs, so true religious "leaders" (if they claim to be true Christians) would likewise not do so.

See the following scriptural references:

** Matthew 7:21-23 - "Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the ONE DOING THE WILL OF MY FATHER who is in the heavens will...."

** Matthew 23:13-35 - "“Woe to you, blind guides...., hypocrites...."

This is not to downplay the responsibility which these leaders have to teach the flock about loving one's neighbor and being impartial as regards to race or nationality. (See Acts 10:34,35.) Yet, as for the "traditions of man" these should certainly not be tolerated.

** Matthew 15:6-9 - "You have made the word of God invalid because of your TRADITION....This people honors me with their lips, yet their heart is far removed from me. It is in vain that they keep worshiping me, because they teach commands of men as doctrines."

Because in order to be a religious Leader you Must truly practice your religion and very few have any tolerance for anything other than what they say is right.

Oh they do... it is just that other religions are not tolerant of us! Christianity is an offensive faith... not a pacifist one. We are to take over every stronghold and fortress that belongs to Satan... hence we are on the attack.

So try to be tolerant of us poor Christians that have to put up with the intolerant masses around us...

This talk was recently given (April 2, 2006) in a general conference with the entire Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It basically warns us of intolerance to others' beliefs, nationalities, and other differences and encourages us to be mindful of others' feelings.

Loving thy neighbor is definitely Christian, and we don't emphasize tolerance of other faiths (respect, sure, but not acceptance) since we believe that Jesus is the only way to God.

That's because the REAL values of Christianity are so difficult to live and to learn, that they don't bring in as much revenue as the hype sermons.
