Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

ddead_alive: Why would you accuse me of making up these verses? They are from the KJV of the New Testament. If they seem so alien to your way of life, I guess they don't have much impact on your particular brand of Christianity.

jwilcoxino: Not all Christians go to the same church. I can't stop non-Christians from answering, but what would be the point of an atheist/non-Christian answer to my question?

nitelife: That's very good general advice, but it doesn't really answer my question.

to stay in gods love and to love others .. know that hes eternal never ending... to love god with all your heart...i have never heard of saving with fear... but god states to fear not for i am with you... and the only thing we have to fear is fear its-self... we are here on this earth to make a difference in peoples lives by showing that lives through us... to love someone even if they hate you... but as Christians we aren't supposed to hate one another... we are supposed to love one another...

It means to hold fast to God and his mercy.
To have compassion toward the people you meet, and go out into the world and make a difference (feed, clothe the poor, widows, and orphans & give money to charities, i.e. Children's hospitals, mission work...)
And if it comes down to it, for your loved ones, use the fear of hell to bring them to Christ. But only as a last resorts, especially in the last days. (Who knows when the last days are, but technically the last days have been coming since the time of Christ)
I believe this may mean the clothing of today. God wants all of us, even men to be modest.

I have added the preceding and the proceeding verses to help people keep it in context.

Jude 21-23
Jude wrote this, not Paul. Without knowing where the Scripture is, we cannot ascertain who wrote it.
Keep yourself in the love, your eyes on His mercy unto eternity. Save those from the fire, for fear of their future, and the garment spotted by the flesh is fears and worldy ways which affect our stature before Him. We should be holy as He is holy.
Pull those away who are in danger.

Verses mean nothing when out of context. You must know who is writing, why they are writing, who they are responding to, what they are responding to.

'Verses are not notes to us. They are part of a letter to someone about something specific usually.

Anyway - It sounds like Paul. And he is talking about keeping steadfast in the knowledge of grace and peace, some you can teach and be compassionate for - those under the law and preaching the law. (often he was referring to the apostles) Others approach with fear as they are very serious and threatning about returning your state of mind to the law. Their is one instance in Galations mentioned where someone mentions fear of the apostles and returning to the law.

lusts of the flesh = our desire to be under the law
save= saving of the mind - sin consciousness vs grace
times past = the time under the law, before Jesus death or before Paul's conversion.

This is from the book of Jude and is written to Christians about Christians. This is not a method of conversion, but an admonition to use wisdom and discernment in helping those Christians who are discouraged or are falling away. You have to know what causes the problem in order to know how to help.

to be close to god to me is love because he died for our sins... and that he is a merciful god ... he is eternal he is never ending... he is the alpha and omega... the begining and the end... having compassion is key to being able to relate or to at least feel for another that is going through pain or agony ..and making a difference in another persons life... i am not sure on the rest of what you wrote but the begining stuff i know... i at least hope some of what i wrote answers your question... at least i tried...

Why do so many people on here segregate their questions to specific people? This is an open community. If you want to ask someone of a specific religion a question, go to their church and ask them.
