Just because your child was exposed, does not mean that he will get it. He had to have head to head contact, or shared hats or something with the child. I worked in childcare for 10 years and never had lice, but was around it tons. My children were in childcare from 6 weeks until my oldest was seven and never had it. The one time one of my children did get it they were no longer in daycare, she tried on a hat at walmart. you don't have to buy the expensive shampoos. Try Queen Helens cholesterol cream , or mayo. Let it sit for about an hour and wash out.

It is fairly likely that he will end up with them; lice can jump up to 20 feet, that is why they are so hard to get rid of. Go ahead and get some lice shampoo and use it on him as a preventative measure; check his scalp every day for the next couple of weeks. If he did pick them up, the first thing you will notice (besides him scratching his head a lot) is tiny little white things attached to his hair, that look like small grains of rice. Those are nits, the eggs of the lice. If you see them, that is when you need to use the lice shampoo every day, and comb his hair thoroughly with the included lice comb. If you don't catch this in time, you will have to invest in a hair clipper set and give him a buzz cut to get rid of the nits. A barber will not do this for you as it is a health hazard and he could lose his license. That's what I had to do when my sons both got lice. You also need to protect his pillow, bedding, etc. unless you want to either wash all of it every day or toss it out and buy all new stuff. The easiest way to do this is going to be to have him wear a plastic cap on his head, like the ones by surgeons.

It usually takes about 11 days to be sure if he is going to get it or not. I have been a hair stylist for 20 yrs and have been "exposed" to it several times but have never got it. He doesn't necessesarily have to touch. He might only have to lay his head down in the same area or use a brush or wear a hat that the other kid used. If he does get it, make sure you clean EVERYTHING! That means bed, couch, pillows, car, chairs, everything. Buy Rid at walmart, it works the best. They also have a generic form and a spray for all the furniture, hats, brushes, etc. Feel free to email for more questions. If it makes you feel any better, me daughters got it from daycare when they were little! How embarrasing for a hairdresser!!

Thank the Lord you have a boy. Imagine trying to wash lice from the head of a girl with hair to her bum. Give him a military style haircut and wash with Rid or Nix.

just wait and see, if they didn't share hats or rub heads he may be fine!
If you are worried have him checked! Wash his hair with that horrible lice shampoo, just to be safe!
