When I moved from California to Texas a several years ago, we packed our food in coolers, but good ones. Most of the stuff made it fine, and it took us two days to get there, in the summer. The funny thing about some of the stuff is that it seems to get colder and stuck together completely solid. Use tood coolers, not those cheap throw aways. So, if you don't have any, then maybe it's cheaper to throw out your food. At that time, my family was a very outdoors group and we had several good coolers.

Wrap the frozen food in layers of newspaper and pack tightly in an ice chest. I've moved stuff this way on a 3 day trip and when I arrived, the food was still frozen.

buy new food!

a cooler can't keep it frozen. It'll slowly thaw out... even if you have the time to buy more ice.

I tried to keep steaks frozen on a 12 hour trip from Nor Cal to Irvine. We had to cook and eat it as soon as we got there. It was a bit stressful.

There are several small thermoelectric coolers on the market that you can buy which will run off of your cars accessory plug. You could also pack a cooler with dry ice which is available at most supper markets.

depends on how far away you are moving? foods that are frozen solid (like turkeys, ets) are usually good to go for a couple of hours. frozen foods like ice cream aren't worth your time.

cold foods that are not likely to spoil as a result of being temporarily warm (fruit, jam, ketchup) are ok to take with you. cold foods that will spoil like milk should be used or thrown away.

finally, ask yourself if you really want to MOVE the foods, especially if you are moving other heavy items, like furniture or books.

Put food in cooler and pack it with ice, then again it might just be cheaper to buy new food when you get there. all depends on what your moving and the quantity you are moving.

I wouldnt keep the food I would try to use it up or donate it before you go and buy new when you get there. Moving to another state food may not last the trip.

It may be best to buy new stuff. It will give you less headache in the long run.

Or, use dried ice. In the phone book they have a listing of dry ice vendors. There's one in Bellflower if you're in So Cal
