this is in regards to the "Geneva Convention". I don't know if this happen in WWI, but it defenately happened in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, probably the Gulf War and recently Iraqi Freedom. POW's were executed, murdered, beaten savagely, starved on purpose, mutilated, etc...especially with our troops & allies. When we himuliate & beat/torture some of their POW's we get, the whole world says "f*ck the U.S." & hate us for it. Frankly I don't see what the big deal is with kicking some of their POW's azz a little bit. To prove my point watch the movie(s) like "end of all wars", "last great raid" & don't forget "schindler's list". I say it's about time we get some payback & beat their POW's, just like how the Japanese treated our POW's. To all the people that say it's inhumane...watch the movies I just listed & read some of the true stories/documentaries. See if you would like to be treated that way, cause I sure the hell won't. So I say this is all BS & F*CK THEM...it's PAYBACK TIME.

with germans - Hitler killed himself what a p*ssy & the Japanese - we could have put Japan (island) under the ocean with our atomic bombs if we wanted to.

as has already been stated you can change the mind of an enemy by how you treat him. you don't pamper him, but you treat him firmly and civily as you would expect to be treated..no more no less. there is such a thing as "spoiling" a prisoner. this can be done is one of two ways. by being "too nice" offering him comfort items candy, cigarettes, smiling, joking, etc, and by cruelty..threatening, slapping, pushing, punching, deprivation of food or other items you have been authorized to supply him. to do either of these things. you are in violation of several articles of the UCMJ including conduct unbecoming and the GENEVA CONVENTION. If for no other reason than a selfish one we adhere to the GENEVA convention because we expect our soldiers to be treated accordingly. But more than all of this one can not allow a war to rob you of your humanity. You can always find an excuse...your best friend was just killed, you have been under a lot of stress, you've been under fire too long without getting payback...but you gotta hang on to that one thing that keeps you from being just another SS type. We are Americans. We are different. We can not accept less. As far as being hated goes, I wouldn't worry about it too much; our friends are pretty forgiving, our enemies never will, and most of them live right inside our own borders.

The rest of the world does not hate the Americans. What it hates is the Bush's administration policies and practices. And since this is clear I would go to my second point.

At least for the most Europeans the people of Iraq are not POW's because there should not be a war there or because most of the prisoners are civilians. To make my argument stronger compare how many countries have troops in Afghanistan and how many in Iraq. After 9/11 all the Europeans were supportive and totally justified the war against Afghanistan for obvious reasons. But in Iraq the invasion, for Europeans, was totally unjustified.

Finally the most important. The civilized countries are also judged of how they treat their enemies. Killing and torturing prisoners is by all means wrong and barbaric. And do not forget hatred bring only hatred and with this kind of practices and statements will only continue that cycle of violence.

When we treat POWs that way, when they get out they say: America is evil, they are worse than who the deposed, let's kill them all. When you treat a POW well, they say: American are nice, they are here to help.
I met an Austrian friend's grandfather and he asked if I was American. I said yes. He said: When I was in the war (he was a Nazi) I was captured by the Brits. And then I was traded to the French and then the Americans. The Americans were the best. They were nice and they gave us chocolate.
Now, notice we haven't had any problem with the German or Japanese...

first you have to be willing to seek an answer to get one. if you know it all then why care to ask or even discuss.
second the US has created hatred for itself through its own policies and actions. All such actions would only cause other people, as rightly said by you "to hate the US more" and give the terrorists more stuff to motivate and create more terrorists.
third all your actions would come back to act upon you both good and bad.
