the local humane society. If you're in Redding, CA, go to the Sears Mall on Saturday. They'll be there with some adoptbable critters. You'll likely pay less there, than in any other California city. Also go the Sacramento River on South Bonneyview or Bidwell Park in Chico, CA. Some times they get abandoned. I found an abandoned kitten at the river, once. Turned out it was already box trained.

Go to your local animal shelter. If there aren't any there to your liking ask the shelter if they have a foster program. See if you can get locations where the fosters bring their animals (cats & kittens in this case). Then go at the time and to the location and just enjoy finding your new family member.

I recently got a kitten from a foster. She is the most darling thing! I live in the Alemeda County area and I know the Dublin Animal Shelter has a foster program so if you live nearby go there!

Kittens are more expensive than adults. They are normally $100-$130, at least those are the prices I have seen. Good luck!

I would recommend your local Humane Society or if they're too expensive, check your local paper. Some people advertise when their cats have litters of kittens. Most kittens are loveable but you should be willing to train them to behave too. Also, if you're gone a lot or have an odd work schedual, I suggest you get two kittens from the same litter or of similar ages. They will keep each other company and mostly leave the apartment and it's furnishings intact.

Try the newspaper or ask your local vet . Often, they will have many animals that they know are available to adopt. You may also try any farm, they always have barn cats that are having unwanted kittens because they are never spayed or neutered. As sad as it may be, some farmers find them good for mousing but will not give them proper care. Kittens are often just destroyed by the farmer. Visit the right place and you'll have quite a selection.

I know that this is like one of the most commen answers but the humane society and animal shelter are the best place. People all around the world have cats who accidently get pregnant and they take the kittens to the humane society or animal shelter. Find a cute little kitten that fits you! trust me that you will have plenty of choices!

The Humane Society, local animal shelters, sanctuaries, etc. If you adopt from a shelter, anywhere, you will have to pay a fee, but the cat will be spayed or neutered, have been given all of it's shots & a full exam. Adult cats make great companions, as well.

The Humane Society, but go to one in a nice area. We were told by the Los Angeles Humane Society themselves that pets from bad areas like Inglewood or South Central L.A. tend to have more problems than pets from other areas. Sometimes they can't adapt to new situations or are simply not able to trust humans anymore.

Sometimes you can find an ad in a local paper for free pets or call around to different vet offices. They may have bulletin boards posting pets for sell or to give away. Please, whatever you do, get it neutered or spayed soon. There are more than enough unwanted animals as it is.
