Sounds like me. I was pregnant the first time at 19 also. Perfect size 5 & 127 lbs. of muscle. I ended up at 183 lbs. when I gave birth. That was all fat. My daughter is now 5 years old, and it took me 2 years to get the first 40 lbs. off. And I worked on it constantly. In the last 3 years, I have lost only 10 more lbs. But I am turning it into muscle, which weighs more. The best thing I can tell as a ver y busy mother of two with a full-time job, is to keep on your feet, keep moving if you aren't able to go to the gym. I haven't been to a gyn in six years, but I'm still getting it all off, and starting to look pretty darn good. Maybe not as good as when I was 19, but a more mature good-looking. If she is able to go to the gym, then take the opprtunity. She'll get it off in a year instead of five if she can do that. Also, ask a trainer what exercises work the best on her trouble areas.

I have just had my second child not too long ago and my mother gave me some advice on that very thing. She told me to go on the Lean Cuisine diet. Just go the frozen food section in your local market. I have a bowl of cereal in the morning with some friut. make sure the cereal has little sugar in it, One lean cuisine dinner for lunch, a light n' fit yogart for a snack, and another lean cuisine dinner for dinner. Nothing to eat before I go to bed. It's only been a month and I've already lost 11lbs. I went from 175 to 164 lbs. Oh, I also increased my excersize a lot. Just by walking a lot and going swimming. I cut all soda from my diet and starting drinking lots of water. You don't want to lose the weight all at once because it's harder to keep off. I hope this helps.

I know it's tough to take off the "baby weight", but she should ask her doctor for some exercises that not only will help take off the weight, but tighten the muscles back up too. Eating right and getting some sleep would help (sleep is almost impossible the first few months). It is hard to exercise alone, perhaps the two of you could go to a class together?

Exercise is the best way. Breastfeeding also burns a lot of calories on a daily basis. Why is she so busy? Get a jogging stroller and run with the baby. There is always time for exercise, sometimes you have to be a little creative and get off the couch.

Put exercise into everything you do! Do squats while you watch tv. Instead of a rocking chair, walk around the house with the baby. My fave was to get a large exercise ball and do all sorts of stuff with it, they usually come with a lot of ideas for workouts. Exercise doesn't need to be done in one long stretch, spread it out throughout the day. Another great thing to do is buy one of those snuglis, you know a "back pack" type thing for the baby to be strapped to your chest, and go for long power walks. The added weight gives you a great workout.

I found that after my daughter even though I was active the pounds would not come off. I purchased a can of slim fast but instead of just using that I read the insert relating to the amount of calories and fat. I began to read labels and the listing of calories and fat content. I lost the weight quickly after changing my diet. In addition, the time that you eat is important as well especially if its later at night.

the short answer: diet and exercise - and YES to breastfeeding!

- investing in a jogging stroller
- joining a mothers' exercise group (one in my city is called "Yummy Mummies") where moms and babies and toddlers are all welcomed helps.
- taking baby hiking while wearing a snugglie.
- join a walking and runnning club where she can use the jogging stroller. the local "Hash House Harriers" running/social club here has walkers in it as well.

and eating good foods: plenty of vegetables and fruits and protein. moderation on sweets, and starchy foods (carbs). cut out the fats -- the body stores most as more fat.

diet alone doesn't make people lose weight. muscles burn calories more than fat on your body does, and exercise increases your metabolism to burn even more, even when you're resting.

it's a simple calculation. . . she needs to burn more calories than she intakes to lose weight. 1 pound equals approx. 3500 calories. So she needs to exercise more or eat less.

I understand it's very hard!!!! She should realize that it won't come off overnight. Nine months up, nine months down, so the saying goes. The fact that she's young is good though. As we age metabolism slows which makes it more difficult to lose weight.
