Well, golf course could be a lot shorter if they used square balls. Think how much land would be saved.
Getting "roll" is important in golf and the ball being round certainly helps with that.

The same reason baseballs, soccer balls, basket balls, and most other balls are round. It is the most accurrates shape available that has the ability to absorb and transfer energy. Also much easier to roll a sphere than a square.

Years ago, they tried using a deca-octo-pyamidicelihedron shaped object, but it never really caught on. I think they discovered that it was too hard to market because it had too many nipples.
