Try Glenlivet, it is one of the best tasting scotch whiskeys I have tried.

If you really want to truly experience Scotch, get single-malt scotch whiskies as opposed to blended ones like Chivas. The ones I like the best are Lagavulin and Macallen. They are both from Scotland distilleries, and both have a very smoky taste due to peat being burned in the fire that they use to dry the barley. The longer the Scotch has matured, the better it tastes. So an 18-year old Scotch is generally better than a 12-year old Scotch by the same company. This is not to knock blended Scotch whiskey, which can also be very good, but just to guide you to the truest Scotch experience.

Chivas is a good Scotch for the Money. NOW! Depending on where you live and IF there a good Liquor Store that do special orders. Save you up about $200-300 and go in and tell them you want a 30-50 Year old Scotch. Ha!!! It good to do at least once in ones life to Know you have had a Scotch this old.
IF, the Store Owner a good man and Trustworthy he will get you an Excellent Scotch for your money. ;-)

There are a number of good scotches, but they may be hard to get in some locations. Some suggestions are Glenmorangie and Glenfiddich. Glenfiddich makes the Glenfiddich XXX which is one of the most eloquent and expensive (massly produced) scotches around (at about $250 a fifth, not a record, but good enough to scare some people away). The XXX stands for the 30 years that it was aged; a very smooth treat.

yes yes. i used to drink chivas and johnny walker, then i tried single malt. like night and day.
i'd say your best introduction to single malts would be the Glenlivet. so smooth. later try the good stuff: Laphroaig (La-froyg) and Lagavulin. and once you're hooked (and ready to spend big bucks) try Talisker, Cadenhead Cask Strength, 16 years old and 125 proof, very smokey!
someone on the page mistakenly added Bushmills (fine Irish whiskey), this is not Scotch. it is though, the worlds oldest commercially produced whiskey and by far the best (for casual drinking).

Try Old Bushmill Whiskey, it is made in Ireland and is super. The best way, is over the rocks. The best Bushmill is expensive, but worth it. They have been making whiskey since the 1600s.

My husband is fairly new too. He's tried several. He loves Jonnie Walker's Black Label, Glenfiddich 12 years single malt, or Glen Livet 18 yr. single malt. all reasonably priced
