You can eat chocolate and drink pop. Mormons cannot drink coffee, or tea, because of all the caffeine. But soda is not forbidden, but discouraged. Chocolate is not even mentioned, you can have all you want.

The distinguishing factor is whether caffeine occurs naturally, or if it's an additive. In chocolate, it is clearly a natural occurrence. Therefore, most Mormons don't regard it as harmful or in violation of the Word of Wisdom. In pop, it's obviously used as an additive. The Church doesn't officially ban the consumption of caffeine, but you can bet there are a lot of Mormons who won't partake of any beverages that have it.
In this case, it's a personal choice. Coffee and tea are the only beverages that are officially banned by Church leadership's interpretation of the Word of Wisdom.

Maybe your ex gf told you that just because she wanted to dump you.
Mormons can drink pop, and they can eat chocolate. These things are not on any forbidden list.
There are some extremists in the Church, not leaders, who have decided that because hot drinks - meaning tea and coffee - are bad for you, that caffeine is bad for you. There is no doctrine that says you should not take caffeine. Then they go even further and claim that chocolate contains caffeine, which my doctor assures me is incorrect. There are some folks who believe this, but it is not taught by the Church.
On the other hand you don't need to be commanded in all things. Drugs like heroin and cocaine are not specifically forbidden either, but common sense should tell you to avoid products that are addictive or harmful to you. If you sincerely believe that pop and chocolate are harmful to you, then for goodness sake don't take them. The Church teaches you to use wisdom and avoid harming your body. Whether pop and chocolate are harmful is left to you to decide.

The chocolate thing is questionable, as chocolate has very low levels of caffeine, but some Mormons avoid it regardless. And as for the pop, it's just the caffeine, not the soda itself. Mormons can drink caffeine-free pop. :)
Mormons, among others, avoid anything that they believe pollutes the body. Tobacco, caffeine, alcohol, etc.

There isn't anything in the Mormon (LDS) religion that forbids soda pop or caffeine. However, some people/families choose not to eat or drink anything with caffeine. It's more of a personal preference than anything.

Chocolate has NEVER been "forbidden" nor has there ever been an official statement about not consuming caffeine. It's not even mentioned in the Word of Wisdom (which is like a code of health). Topher did a good job of explaining it. The Word of Wisdom also talks about the things that we SHOULD eat (fruits, vegetables, grains, etc.) that are good for us.
By the way, I would like to see ANY sort of documentation that the Church bought stock in Coca-Cola!

We can - some believe that the Word of Wisdom implies no caffine, but it actually states no coffee, tea or hot drinks.
It all depends on how you percieve the Word. An official declaration has never come from the First Presidency reguarding the consumption of caffine.
By the way, I'd ignore any of the answers that involve "They"
"We" answers, those would be ok.

As a Morman I can answer this question for you. We can drink pop and eat chocolate. This common misconception is due to the fact that we do not drink coffee or tea. That is because of the acids and not the caffine. Hope that answers your question for you.

Rules, rules, rules... and look where it gets you in the end? I would actually encourage Mormons to drink caffeine and eat chocolate. They might be able to knock on more doors that way and get more of us converted!
