Your daughter can not be helped in growing up by what your grandmother did.
Try saying I went through that as a kid to your kid and see the reaction. Things always change around you so what may have worked 50 years ago does not work today.
Also it does no good to second guess what we did years ago. we can not change it now. What would have happen if we paid the tax for the tea those 200 years ago. Would it be better or worse ?

It's from the movie: "Finding Forrester"...

Jamal: Don't forget to write.

William Forrester: You write the first draft with your heart, and the second draft with your head.

Jamal Wallace: "The rest of those who have gone before us cannot steady the unrest of those to follow." You wrote that in your book.

In context of the screen play, of Finding Forrester it speaks to his relationship with his brother and the guilt which paralyzed the main character, evolving him into a recluse with some phobias.

On a personal level, it means to me, we do not know what is lies ahead after we die. We know the dead cannot offer us an answer, or genuine comfort, and we must press onward. And eventually, it relates to the character in this movie: recovery of his conscious, life because he was able to overcome his fears for a greater good, helping to salvage a friend, in a deep dilemma, and enjoy the rest of his life in peace, as well. .
