I am going through the same thing. Do not listen to the idiot who said its thyroid cancer. You don't know that and from everything I've read thyroid cancer is very rare and one of the most curable. I found out I had an enlarged thyroid by accident. Had the bloodwork done and my TSH was almost 9 so they started me on the meds. In the meantime I had the ultrasound which showed it was enlarged and had growths on it. Now I am in a waiting game. I need a radioactive iodine uptake test but can't do that on the meds, you have to be off of them for one month. So now I have stopped the meds. and have to wait until the middle of July. Sigh..................Have you had the ultrasound and uptake test?

I've had a few members in my support group that have had thyroid cancer and have looked up things for them from time to time. My mother had a goiter, I'm hypothyroid. Don't panic. The nodule is probably benign if the function shows ok, they will want to watch it. They would want to remove it if it's causing you trouble in swallowing. They can do a nuclear test to examine the nodule more closely, you drink radioactive material, it's not harmful, and the next day go back for a scan. Maybe you did that already. A biopsy may or may not be needed, depends on the scan results. I'm not sure which way they would want to biopsy it, a fine needle biopsy or if you'd go in the hospital and they would remove the lump or just snip a little bit out. I wouldn't worry though because your function is showing normal. With cancer it usually shows something in the blood work, high wacky levels. Try to relax this weekend, get outside and do something fun.

I'm having a root canal worked on Monday, so I know how anxious you feel. I'm a cancer survivor too, the waiting is the hardest part but you know what? After Monday you will know where you stand and you can feel better. Just think this weekend that it's something you need to do and you'll be good after you get it done.

Cancer ALL sucks, but thyroid cancer is not such a terrible diagnosis if that's where the cancer originated. (It sounds like your uncle had it somewhere else and it spread?). They can kill the cancer in your thyroid (if in fact it's even cancer), or even completely remove your thyroid without it significantly impacting your life. You just have to take tablets. (This sounds tough, but it beats being dead!)

Every day cancer becomes less of a threat and motre of a manageable inconvenience. I'm glad you found it whenm it was still just a little nodule.

Good luck!

this is not abnormal..my sister just had this and it was a tumor and not cancer and they just took it off. I had a friend who said there are many women who have this and she had to have her thyroid removed but is perfectly fine. do not worry. the C word (cancer) scares the heck out of everyone and usually the lump by the thyroid is nothing.
my mom had lymphoma and they said her chances were slim since it was spread but that was 8 years ago and she roller blades and is in better health than I am right now. she was so scared and now she wants only to forget it.

Quite frankly if your thyroid function is fine, it is not thyroid cancer. It could be another form of cancer that has masticulated, but it probably just a cyst or benign tumor. I wouldn't sweat it, especially if your thyroid function is normal.

You have thyroid cancer. Don't drink, it will make it worse. Set up a surgery and get chemo
