Because parents do not instill any responsibility in their children.
They're more concerned about making sure they "feel good" and that they're friends instead of pilars of authority as they should be.

It's not just teens, it's all ages. the news just focuses on teens. Becarful, I know of a few close calls with death, and 3 deaths for sure that was caused by drunk driving. All were the other drivers faults, and the drunks were adults.

A lot of this has to do with thier value systems. It is also what happens when you give teens too little responsibility. The reason that alcohol and drug use are less in athletes and scholars is that they don't have the time to do a lot of extra curricular things. This lack of things to do and lack of a good strong moral upbringing (teens drinking is against the law after all), all adds to teens decsions to drink. After they drink, then stupid things follow because their inhibitions are removed. We call them stupid things, but really what they are is bad decsions. This is a normal response to alcohol consumption.

Because they're stressed.
Because they want to fit in.
Because they want to feel adult.
Because they want to experience altered consciousness.
Because they're friends are doing it.
Because it feels good for most if you don't go overboard.

Getting killed - because they don't do it right. Because some lose their minds when they get drunk and don't understand they can't drive or cross the street right.

teenagers think they are invincible and don't consider the risks they take. They assume tomorrow is guaranteed. I know, I did. As you mature, you realize how precious and fragile life can be.

They are having so much fun without any concept of death. They are impulsive and immature and are not thinking of what their actions are doing to their parents. Childish, selfish, clueless.
