because they are ignorant of the truth

Because Western Civilization starts with the Egyptians and proceeds outward. If one one wants their western religion to be valid it must be connected to the Egyptians. Then only way to do that is to go through the Jews-The Old Testament.
I always thought that Christ made the OT null & void.
Ialways thought that preachers quoting scripture written for a race of oeople that theyr'e not even remoyley related to is kind of strange.
Good Question

To be a real Christian meas to be Christ-like, by definition. Jesus obeyed the Old testament and provided a new testament (which also means covenant) for us, as humans were/are too selfish to live up to the original "old" commandment and they became a form of bondage and division, not what God had intended. He summed up all the rules with the 2 "new commandments" 1. Love your God, and put on others before him, 2. Love you neighbor as yourself. Do this and you fulfill all the old commandments (known as the 10 commandments).
36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

People put alot of labels on who they are, but it is their actions that will tell the truth. The old testament dealt with the law while the new testament(Christ) deals with the fulfillment of the law. Christ requires that we take up our cross daily and follow him. If people would do that they would be living testimonies of the old and new testaments and their words would carry more weight.

Number one
Christ quoted the Old Testament

The parallels of Christ-Old testament
Genesis-Book of beginnings with Christ pictured as the promised one.
Exodus-Pictured Christ as the Passover Lamb
Leviticus-Pictures Christ as the Atoning Sacrifice
Numbers-Pictured Christ as the Star of Jacob
Deuteronomy-Pictured Christ as the Prophet

These books round out the Torah, "teachings" of Moses, compiled in the Pentateuch or first five books of the Bible. Which lay the foundation for Christ.

The next set of books are the historical books which set the preparation for Christ.

Joshua-Pictures Christ as the Commander of the Lord and the Lord's army
Judges-Pictures Christ as the judge and deliverer
Ruth-Pictures Christ as Kinsman Redeemer(We should know this one)
Ezra-Pictures Christ as a Faithful Priest
Nehemiah-Pictures Christ as the Builder of Jerusalem
Esther-Pictures Christ as the protector of the Jews

Then there are the Poetic Books which show an aspiration for Christ

Job-Pictures Christ as the redeemer of life
Psalms-Pictures Christ as Song of Praise
Proverbs-Pictures Christ as the Wisdom of God
Ecclesiastes-Pictures Christ as the purpose of life
Song of Solomon-Pictures Christ as Lover of your Soul

Next there are the Prophets, known as the Expectation for Christ

Isaiah-Pictures Christ as the Prince of Peace
Jeremiah and Lamenetations-Pictures Christ as the Righteous Branch
Ezekiel-Pictures Christ as the Glory of God
Daniel-Pictures Christ as the Messiah and Annointed one

Not sure what you mean by that.

Is it possible to live entirely within Scripture? Depends on your take. If you follow all the rules of Deuteronomy, well there you go, no perfumes, cream of chicken soup or two-cloth clothing.

I think it's easiest to say you are trying to live in accordance with Scripture or at least not in contradiction to it. No one is perfect. The admonition in the epistles is to "Be imitators of Christ" not Christ Himself.

Nobody is perfect, so all of us behave poorly at times. Some are a lot farther away from perfection - or even common decency - than others. Christ died to cover all the sins of imperfect people, based on where they have put their faith.

Because the Old testament (violent) contradicts the New one(loving), and they chose to only quote the Old one because it gives them the excuse to hate everyone who is not like them.

Christ was perfect, humans are not, we have to try our best to be like Christ.
Christians aren't perfect, they are just forgiven.
Christians sin every day, we can't stop sinning, we can try not to sin as much but we will still sin. Jesus still forgives us.
Christians are hipocrites. I'm one and i'm a hipocrite. But we have to try our best to be like Jesus, and we're human and we slip up sometimes.

Christians want to point out sin in others lives to make them look like the holyest thing since swiss chesse. But Jesus says don't judge others and you will not be judge yourself.

We just slip up.

Because to do so would contradict the bigotry and hatred that some spew out on a daily basis. Plus the "judge not . . " angle, which tends to be conveniently ignored.
