Never lean your head back as this will cause blood to pool into your sinus cavity. Get some ice and wrap it in a teatowel, or even use the old frozen vege packs and wrap it in a teatowel. Move your head gently forward, get tissues and hold your nose gently near the nostrils, then put ice pack over your nose. It may take up to 15 minutes to stop bleeding entirely, if not see your GP. Don't get up and move around to much for at least an hour afterwards or go near anything hot as it will dilate your little vessels that burst in there and you'll have a nose bleed all over again. Causes may be from hitting it, picking it, heat, change of temperature, medication or change in medication, season's changing, PMT. Well hope you get better soon.

I've seen an ice pack on the nose, holding your head back, holding a tissue to the nose until the bleeding stops on its own. If it doesn't stop soon, call you local emergency room for advice on how to stop the nosebleed. They will let you know when you should get medical attention.

Head forward so your chin touches your chest and pinch the nose bridge (just below the eyes). Putting your head back will make the blood run into your throat/stomach and may cause more bleeding. Lots of things cause them.

my friend had that problem since we were 5 years old till the day doctor burned his capilary and veins in the nose, a minor operation.

it might be because of a crack in veins if it is frequent.

Lean your head FORWARD..not back...this will stop it sooner and pinch the very top of the nose.
