I want to cook a nice dinner for my girl friend. I bought just under three pounds of frozen King Crab. I know you boil it, but I don't know for how long. How do you know when its done? Thank you in advance for your help.

PS: We're have Caesar Salad and Mohitos made with fresh squeezed lime and organically grown mint. Should be excellent. But then my baby deserves the very best. :^)

If the shells on the legs are already bright reddish orange, they are already cooked....in that case, just thaw them, saute them lightly in butter for about a minute and serve....the reason I say this is most of the king crab available is already cooked...it's cooked before it is shipped.

For a fun twist, first saute some mushrooms and artichoke (in butter and garlic) hearts, add the crab legs just before serving

King crab --- or even snow crab---takes very little time to prepare. You can actually steam them in a big pot or cook them on the grill after you've soaked them in butter and lemon juice all night. Steaming three pounds of King crab will take about 10 minutes....max. Watch the shell...when it starts getting that bright reddish, pinkish color and the white is still white----if the white part of the shell turns yellow, they're overcooked.

Crab Legs

Steaming:

1. Do not pre-thaw crab legs.

2. Place frozen crab legs in vegetable steamer or colander over boiling water.

3. Cover tightly and steam approximately six minutes.

4. Brush with melted butter, season and serve with cocktail sauce.


Microwave:

1. Do not pre-thaw crab.

2. Place frozen crab legs in the microwave and cover with a damp towel to prevent moisture loss.

3. Heat for five minutes on defrost setting.

4. Brush with melted butter, season and serve with cocktail sauce.

The legs you buy from the grocery store are already cooked. All you have to do is reheat them by steaming for about 5 minutes.

steam them in large pot with Old Bay seasoning until they turn a pinkish color,don't lay them directly into the water,it makes them soggy
